Maps filed by pile on the floor for a year or 2 then country, region and club in a filling cabinet... Some places like the Forest of Dean which are shaered by Bok and NGOC have there own bag... Mountain Marathon maps etc are kept seperatly by country.
When My mum and Dad moved house 10 years ago I got presented with one of every map where there were suficent duplicastes to go around, not sure if my brother and sister got the same....

Re: How do you file your O Maps?
Filing system preferred by eldest child (also works well for CompassSport, Focus and mountain biking magazines):
pile of maps on desk, pile of maps on bed, pile of maps next to bed. Set of maps on floor next to bean bag. Folder bought by mother at son's request (for filing maps) on floor (empty) next to maps. Pile of maps on dining table next to placemat, pile of maps on sofa, pile of maps on floor next to sofa, pile of maps on coffee table, small set of maps in bathroom, maps on desk in study near computer, maps on sideboard, occasional map in kitchen. Maps on varnished floorboards particularly good for making mother skate across the room and fall over (though CompassSport or other glossy production even better for this purpose). Pile of maps precariously balanced on banister post at top of stairs soon leading to maps scattered over the stairs.
Result: wherever he is in the house, an O-map is always close at hand and therefore he is always able to study a map/plan route choices/practice planning courses instead of whatever it is he is supposed to be doing.

Re: How do you file your O Maps?
We are obviously a 'sad' house.
Lynn does all the filing!!!
We are a very ordered house
Large ring binders for each year - all maps in date order.
On shelf by computer we have 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005 in rank order. After that up in loft going back to about 2000 when we restarted orienteering again.
Also in loft a small pile of 'specials' from 70's and early 80's when we were members of OD - such as 1976 Cannock Chase which was fairly large and an enourmous one of Cannock Chase - about 1972 vintage (before we started orienteering) as maps lasted several years with hand corrections in those days - it must be about A2 size and covers the whole of Cannock Chase and beyond.
Not sure now if I put a smile or sad face up - so will cover all options

Ps forgot to add - index in front of each ring binder - every map numbered!

In boxes! All 1,950 of them since 1969 dutifully entered and cross-referenced on a spreadsheet for easy location by date, and by whatever the (new) name of an area. My children have instructions to use them as my funeral pyre.
Mind you, my CD collection is a mess.

From what I remember 20 years ago I thought you dedicated one empty rooms floor space to the maps Eddie?

oh ok.
i take them down to Franco's chip shop and get him to batter them and deep fry them. I then douse them in salt 'n' sauce and pig out.
