Re: JWOC
Looks like BOF have forgotten all about JWOC already.... not a mention of the results or comments on Long Final & Relay on the BOF front page.... not very satisfactory coverage.... but they did manage a bit on an advert for another form filler:)

Maybe you're looking in Central European Time, Gross, before BOF gets back to work on Monday morning. There's coverage there all right.

Re: JWOC
Sorry for the lateness of the news article on the Long Distance and Relay races it was done as quickly as it could have been. With 6 hours of starts for the men in the long race it makes for a very long day out in the forest and then I am afraid the focus is on refuelling, debriefing and preparing for the relay rather than writing news articles. I did my best to keep on top of the articles through the week but for the last couple of days team duties had to come first.
Nice to see that the automatic reaction though is that its because we just don't care....
On that note a big thank you and congratulations to Jason Inman (coach) and Kim Buckley (physio) for all the work they did with and for the team, its great to be able to work with such passionate and dedicated people.
We should all be proud of the efforts of all of our juniors this year at JWOC, the thing I am happiest about is that all our athletes fought to the finish in every race to get the best result possible, that's the sort of attitude which will see some of these guys making the grade in the seniors in years to come.

Re: JWOC
Blah, blah, blah...... writing a report doesn't take long... uploading it takes even less time:) To my mind it is part of the job to keep people at home up to date..... obviously BOF don't think the same.... and don't give an excuse of being busy at a major competition... if it's part of the job then it's part of the job.................

is it actually part of the job though? or it just something being done because it's nice to be done?

Re: JWOC
Promotion of elite orienteering is part of someone's job at BOF.... as are the 3 P's.... neither were particularly successful at JWOC!!!!
If BOF are happy with coming 10th nation in the relays & patting everyone on the back & saying that 'it's nice' .... then something far wrong somewhere:)

Re: JWOC
We have had lottery style funding for 10 years now with paid, professional support for both the senior & junior teams. There has been no noticeable improvement in performance in these 10 years.... is elite orienteering in the UK standing still????

Re: JWOC
i cannot describe how much of a wan*** Gross is.
I think all the athletes who went out to JWOC not only did themselves proud, but did GB proud. The standard is immense there and all the british team did very well.
Gross, you are a complete and utter idiot.
End of.

Can Gross explain his business model? If I were running a company which took orienteers to events abroad, I would try to think of the impact of my words before I posted so many personal attacks (often indirect, but nevertheless still criticizing an individual or individuals) on an orienteering forum. Attacking Candyman for being an hour or two late with his JWOC report and refusing to accept his explanation is just the latest of such personal attacks. I can't be the only one who reacts like this to Gross posts. In my view he is portraying himself as the last person one would want to risk spending a week on holiday with.

Re: JWOC
I made no comments against any specific individuals. I simply pointed out;
1. Someone, somewhere in BOF has the responsibility of keeping the membership informed as to the results of one of our main competitions relating to the BOF vision of 3 P's.
2. I never made any adverse comments at all about the commitment, enthusiasm etc etc of our athletes... that they are dedicated individuals is without doubt.
3. I did express the opinion that finishing 10th nation cannot be counted as a success given BOF's vision of 3 P's.

Re: JWOC
Gross's arguments get a D-.
1. Part of the job of the BOF website is to promote the sport and help attract newcomers. A downbeat report isn't going to do that. Detailed analysis of performance isn't presumably going to be published on the front page, and maybe we should give people some time to do this properly!
2. Who's to say the results aren't a success? certainly not the 99.9% of us who have never been good enough to make such a team. Even finishing last demands a pretty high standard.
3. I haven't heard anyone making these comments about the adult results. This is surely a better measure as junior results are bound to be erratic as these are young athletes who are still maturing.
And ignoring the MP3 vision stuff, what's wrong with public praise of our junior athletes where praise is due?
I think Gross has a few P's missing from his vision because he's taking the P.
