I've just come across a problem with the "entries.curries" entry system.
I was trying to enter the WOC selection events for my club (OUOC - as Secretary I enter everyone for the events) and I got a message saying that I couldn't spend more than £100 in the however long of using the system without being a member of Nochex. I looked at the details for Nochex and it charges per transaction, which I certainly wasn't going to pay.
I managed to get round the problem by using another card, which I only have as my bank decided that I needed an new one for using a card reader for verification.
However this means that I can now not enter using the "entries.curries" system for a while. This means that all those organisers using this system will have letters/emails from me requesting entries for these events.
I find that this is a stupid system if it means that after using it once I will be unable to use it again, and I was wondering if anyone else had had the same problem and somehow gotten around it. (Yes I know most people won't be spend more than £100 on entries).

Re: Entry Systems
I had a ridiculaouis problem with whichever entries system uses Google checkout.
I was using someone elses's computer and despite entering my personal username and password Google would only allow me to enter using the credit card of the owner of the computer

Oentries uses google checkout. I think you must have been logged into google checkout as the "owner of the computer" as there is no way for google to work this out. Your browser does not say "hi google this is Alastair's computer".

Hmm... if you'd actually bothered to "look at the details for Nochex" you'd have seen that the limit is £100 every day, and so is not really a huge problem - you could probably arrange to pay over two consecutive days. (I'm guessing that Dave Currie would have suggested something similar if you'd contacted him instead of coming to rant on nopesport.) Given the very small number of people that this system inconveniences - and knowing that, from an organiser's point of view, Nochex offers one of the more reasonable rates for online payment - I don't really think that this constitutes a major issue.

Re: Entry Systems
The £100 per day is if you become a member of Nochex, which means a 2.9% charge per entry. The website told me that I had a limit of £100 for a month or more (I can't quite remember) if I wasn't a member of Nochex. If it was a single day then that would not be a problem.
If it was a daily issue I would have sorted it out fine, but as it's monthly I have no way of solving the issue unless I pay and extra 2.9%.
I also didn't notice a nice contact us on the entry system.

Sorry I have looked again to see and found the contact us thing. It was just off the bottom of my browser.
Also I'm not trying to rant, merely see if there is a simple solution, I would have just emailed if I had seen the comment.

Re: Entry Systems
Organiser's don't complain because I'm not charging them anything for the service! The system was originally only intended for use for the JOK Chasing Sprint, then OUOC asked to use it as well, as have British Orienteering. This doesn't give us enough turnover to make a merchant account cost effective.
I did look at adding Google Checkout as an alternative option (although as you've seen - other people have issues with that) but, again, I don't take any money to cover the cost of the signed certificate that they require for automated callbacks via SSL. I do, however, use Google Checkout manually for those with foreign credit cards (which is another limitation of Nochex).
As Scott points out, the £100 limit should be per day for non-Nochex members. If you have not found this the case then please get in touch. As it says on the entry page: "Please e-mail support@curries.org.uk if you have any problems using this entries system".
Regards,
David

S'okay. Not picking on you particularly, but there does seem to be an increasingly common (and rather irritating) attitude in the sport that it's better to complain vociferously about every small problem rather than actually trying to find a solution

And yes, I am aware that I may be being ever-so-slightly hypocritical here...

Sorry I missed the please get in touch. I will email.
I would also like to point out that I like the system, apart from the problem I had with paying through Nochex.

Re: Entry Systems
I am afraid that my problem with Google Checkout was as I said. (This has nothing to do with ranting at any orienteers
).
I logged into Google Checkout with MY name and password which it accepted. However when it came to payment it overrode all my details and changed them to the owner of the computer's. It would appear that Google checkout uses cookies and does not operate as innocently as Pyrat believes.

Re: Entry Systems
From the conditions for a seller account:
"If however a non-member wants to send you a series of payments totalling more than £100 from the same card then they will have to wait for the probation period (75 days) to lapse. "
However, from the conditions for a personal account:
"FREE to send money"

Hey Eddie,
If you can help me recreate on demand, we can solve this. I have found that although there is sometimes problems with google checkout, overall its loads better than paypal / nochex.

And worse, sometimes the vociferous complaint is factually in error!

Re: Entry Systems
OK - so I'll confess that the 75 day restriction is a new one on me. I get the impression Nochex are continually adding restrictions to force sellers over to merchant accounts. (The previous seller account I had they increased the £100 limit on request. Unfortunately the account is tied to a particular e-mail address and when I opened a new account I was told that they would no longer increase the limit for seller accounts.) If I could find another provider with the same technical capabilities but similarly low operating costs then I'd be off like a shot... Alternatively, I'll just have to make sure next year's Chasing Sprint and the selection races are at least 75 days apart!

Ok if this is the case then I have missed something on the Website.
