In total agreement with that, The British Champiosnhsipsfor example (or any of the new regional championshsips) are exactly that.... a championship. We devalue it by having other 'winners' being declared.

We try to make the sport everything to everybody all the time.... just now and again we should evaluate what we are offering and focus on what the purpose of a particular competition is. Getting rid of short courses at a championship shouldn't worry anybody.... if comments like MrsH's are to be taken as a concensus.... and to offer a range of courses of various lengths for those who can't 'hack' the championship course at the event (for whatever reason).
