Lester and I are so very shocked and sorry to hear that news - he seemed so well last time we saw him - and it was always good to see him. We will miss him

Re: Ivor Noot
This is very sad news and all my thoughts go out to Paulette, Reuben, Sarah and Bex.
Ivor was a truelly great character, loved by everyone. He always went out of his way for a chat and more often than not had some amazing stories to tell. Ivor had this fantastic ability to connect with junior as well as older orienteers - he took a real interest in your races and training, and followed your progress with great enthusiasm, as well as enjoying the good hearted banter. I was lucky to be one of those juniors, some 20 years ago aged 11. I will especially remember Ivor for all his positive encouragement, enthusiasm, and banter on our regular meetings at races out in Europe - so many fond memories. Such a great guy, such a sad loss / Dids Jenkins

Really sorry, if not surprised, to hear this.
I shall cherish my memories of Ivor, particularly the time we toured Victoria in a camper van before the 2002 World Masters.

Really sad news indeed, I first met Ivor in 2002 in Norway and like Dids said he'd always go out of his way for a chat and had some great tales. That week he wasn't content with competing in the Sorlandsgaloppen, where he had at least one podium finish iirc, but was cycling to and from most of the events too.

What a real shame. He had seemed so much better when we last spoke to him looking forward to a new grandchild. Ivor was such a great guy, always ready to chat and befriend anyone. We knew him well and he was always looking out for our kids when they moved to Yorkshire. A true gentleman who will be sorely missed. Our thoughts to Paulette and all the family.

Re: Ivor Noot
The sad sad news I feared after the last time we met.
Ivor had been telling me of his orienteering plans shortly before the first onset of cancer. It seemed so sad at the time that when at last he had the time to do what he really wanted it was taken away from him. Then he had that all too brief glorious interlude when he thought that it might all happen.
We can all be thankful for what he has put into our sort and our personal lives.

very sad news. Me and Murray met Ivor in Lithuania a few years ago. Cracking tales and always an entertaining guy. A legend of his time.

Also really sorry to hear this news, a fantastic person who, as others have said, took the time to be interested in how so many people were doing. Will obviously be missed, and thoughts are with all the family.

I cant remember why I was staggering around Yorkshire on a too-long run in the freezing cold. But I have a clear memory of the kindly stranger who took me in and fed me tea, on what turned out to be his birthday. Great guy, sadly missed.

Re: Ivor Noot
Really sorry to hear this.
As has been said Ivor was a true champion, and a great father and fellow competitor to my dad. He was one of my dads biggest rivals, and they used to spend many a time rambling away to each other about their routes and errors. and he would happily chat away to all us juniors about our race and offer tips and advice, he certainly played a big part in my orienteering life.
My thoughts go out to the whole family, and i know he will be sorely missed.

Re: Ivor Noot
Like lots of others I was absolutely flattened when I read the news. I got to know Ivor about thirty years ago, when he used to turn up with the family in a big green van. As our children grew up together I got to know him better and no matter where it was, all over the world, he would always take the time to talk to you. Last conversation I had with him was on a windswept Lakes hillside where he was complaining that he could only run (and win!) the short course. One of Orienteering's characters and nature's gentleman, he will be badly missed. Our thoughts go out to Paulette and the children. Can somebody let us know funeral arrangements?

Andy Hemsted has written an appreciation of Ivor's orienteering life for the EOC website.
