as the taped route from the last control on course 3 didn't go to the finish

I am intrigued - where did it go?

Last control on course 3 was a vegetation boundary, then navigate to finish, which was on a track.
My guess is that this was also the penultimate control on a Yellow-standard course. I speculate that the tape leading away from it went to the last control on the Yellow-standard course, which would have been on the same track as the finish. Can't say for sure as I stopped following it when I realised it wasn't heading straight for the finish.

The results were up by 6.00pm on the day of the event. The comments took a little longer to be collated, but by Tuesday lunchtime they were all there. Which I thought was pretty good, remembering that back in the old days, pre- internet, it used to take as long as a fortnight to extract comments from some of the officials.

I can't answer the comments about the final control because I spent all of the event sitting in front of a hot computer back at base (at Brockenhurst College) and didn't get anywhere near the forest until after it was all over.
