Edinburgh Big Weekend
The final details are up, Jeff's going on a booze cruise, and pretty much everything is in place for an awesome time this weekend. Who's coming? Are you excited? DJ Carlyle is just wondering if there are any particular songs she should track down for your listening pleasure this week, as she's sure no one wants to listen to two hours of vaguely experimental icelandic melodic joy or The Twilight Sad on repeat. Particularly Seabird - any birthday requests?!
Will? We've got proper fire now!

A bit of Regina Spektor would go down very nicely, Becks.

Re: Edinburgh Big Weekend
Given a previous thread, maybe: "How will I ever find my way home?" by British Sea Power
("I'm tired and lost and feeling blown / Running around in a field, just out of my skull / How will I ever find my way home?")
How O-themed do you want it to be?
"She's lost control"
"Complete control" (the clash)
"Self control" (laura branigan)
etc etc. I could go on (and on and on, because i'm very bored at work today
)
Us old folks would love a couple of hours of drum n bass, finishing up with a nice romantic slow dance to "Past, present & future" by the Shangri-Las

I would like Rock the Kasbah in recognition of Sunday morning
or Funky Cold Medina (though I believe this is an alternative use for the word medina - and AMy Winhouse type use, if you will)
or Marrakech Express - but not really

Ah yes, I knew you'd find a good excuse.
Best of luck in Marrakesh: I think 3:09:45 is the last-3-year-INT target to beat. (and the club record is 2:24...)

Re: Edinburgh Big Weekend
Does anyone know what kind of footwear it might be best to take to wear for Saturday's race? Are there many grassy areas which might potentially be crossed, and how muddy/wet does it look like it's going to get? I see the final details mention 'parkland', but also slippery slabs (I'm paraphrasing here...), so I'm guessing fell/trail shoes might be best - or regular trainers?
Sounds like it's going to be a fun weekend!

PS Having pre-booked tickets online for the ceilidh, can someone please reassure me that Little Miss Carnage and I won't be the oldest people there? (We are in our [ahem] mid-twenties and early thirties respectively.)

Re: Edinburgh Big Weekend
Aha! Looking forward to seeing my esteemed club captain there! Perhaps the age profile might be so far 'the other way' that the maestro behind the decks once the ceilidh is over might be DJ Tony Carlyle

Regular trainers rather than fell/trail shoes for Saturday. There aren't many grassy patches and if they are slippy there's nearly always a path beside them anyway. Mostly tarred/cobbled streets, could be slippy, but would definitely get high impact if not wearing nice soft shoes.

Re: Edinburgh Big Weekend
The street race is almost entirely streets: Grippy trainers suitable for running on wet steps/cobbles.
Fell shoes for Holyrood Park, Ghillie Brogues for the Ceilidh.
There is a little moisture in the air in Edinburgh today.

Haha, a good bit of optimism there! Or perhaps i'm in my own little climate zone...
The weather forecast does predict a dry day on Sunday at least

I am soooo excited! Maybe I can give DJ Carlyle Senior a play on the decks this evening!
