Also at this particular event it could have been mentioned at the mass start along with a few other things that were mentioned.

I would also like to point out that if there were final details before the event (as there was last year) I would have read them and noticed this for myself but I don't always get to read the sheets given out to cars. This is especially true for any university group.

As it was there should also be the question over how many people wore studs when it said in the flyer no spikes allowed.

The event was great fun, as usual. As usual I don't like the no studs rule but as a condition of permission I can't complain.

studs with metal spikes

Thoroughly enjoyed the event. (1) Increasing the number of controls to drop was a good idea, giving us more options. (2) Long, Medium and Short all starting at the same time was wonderful. (3) Unsure about the first control no longer being compulsory - it increased the options (clockwise or anticlockwise, north or south first) but it meant less head-to-head competition.

Minor variations adds a bit of spice.

Overprinting it on the map also has the advantage of being internationally understood. It may not seem relevant, but you never know who will be at your event.

Eg the JK at Bigland where a foreign competitor climbed lots of walls. This went against the final details but wasn't marked on the map.

it was only a fun event at lyme park, and prizes have already been handed out (and probably eaten) so i dont think disqualifications would be wise

I thoroughly enjoyed the event and personally thought that not making No 1 control complusory was a great improvement - it meant you had to start making your route choice from the start - whereas in previous years you could be working out your route whilst following the 'herd' to No 1

Perhaps he didn't understand English
seriously though - another reason to put the info on the map or make the route through the crossing point optimal.

Looking at the map, I have to wonder why not? Personally given largely open fell with what looks like some running on hard tracks and very little woodland I'd choose to use rubber soled fell shoes rather than metal studs (which are only really an advantage for running over wood).

As most people do not carry around the final deatials with them, then the only information for them to go y if they were to know if something was uncrossible is on the map. On the map there is no indication that the wall is uncrossible.
It is indicated as high but nothing more, if this guy wants to attempt to assend an 8ft wall then there is nothing stopping him unless the route is shown as OOB. However this may be stupid as the wall may be twice as high as the youth.
If it is going to be such a problem then the planner should have thought more about that before he printed the maps.

Answer: not too hard, provided you have:
a) seen the details
b) actually read them
c) remember them in the oxygen starved heat of competition!

The alternative questions that you should be asking is: How difficult is it to remember " If a boundary is not to be crossed it should be marked as such on the map"

As various people have pointed out in this and other threads, the solution exists and is already in the rules.

every car was given a copy of the details - you needed to read them to decide which course you should enter. If you couldn't be bothered to read them all then you deserve to be disqualified if you trangress!
