From the BOF website:
More details will be made available over the next few days; however I can confirm that clubs will not be required to collect or pay any additional premiums for non-members although clubs will be required to maintain a list of names of all people that participate in an event or that are involved in organising an event.

Re: Insurance
Certainly is...... The comment in "Out of Control" by Mrs H in CompassSport magazine perhaps isn't as big a worry as was made out!!

Re: Insurance
Given this e-mail response from Mike Hamilton on October 18th
It appears there has been a rather rapid re-thnk - just as well as it seemed to be a monumental own goal on the recruitment front - looks more like a result to me
a) Anyone on the course is required to have Civil Liability cover; a family of 4 therefore would pay £2 ie 4 x 50p even though they are going round as ‘1 entry’.........
Regarding the 50p fee for ‘day membership’ to cover insurance; management agreed that British Orienteering will cover the cost during 2007 but that from 1 Jan 2008 we will be asking clubs to use part of the £2 fee collected from non members to cover the 50p cost of insurance. Unfortunately we face a situation where the 50p has to be paid and the only choices are for members to pay it for the non-members, which is unfair, or for the 50p to come from the £2 non members fee – not a great choice really!

Re: Insurance
Congratulations to all concerned -
Both to those who protested to BO about this proposed change that would have been a bureaucratic nightmare at small events and to BO for having the flexibility to realise this and respond positively to the protests.

Re: Insurance
Well said Big John
I was in a dilemma as I'm co-organising a schools event and had to think about the entry forms and contacted BO who sent me a reply pretty promptly.

Re: Insurance
Looking at the insurance information it looks like this is with a different company and hence the different 'rules'.
Aside from the fact that we all (?) want to encourage more newcomers - what about those few (?) who persist in taking advantage of what the clubs offer but will not join the organisation? Should we be charging them more at all levels of event/activity?
