One of my US friends linked this from her training - 16 maps of the same area, drawn on the same day, by 16 different people. Pretty interesting!

I can think of a number of areas where this might apply

Fascinating to look at the different features people have placed on the map. did the huge earthbank just appear, or was it 6 inches high

What strikes me is how some of them look so much more attractive as orienteering venues than others. I really would like to go to Tom's but Boris's looks a bit scary

Re: Mapping as an art form
Interesting - there was a similar exercise done at a BOF mapping conference back in the dark ages (1989) - see attached jpeg (if I can get it to work!) I bet the Czech maps were based on a blank piece of paper - with a decent base map the variation would be much less.
It goes to show that all mappers differ - and some are better than others..... not always best to go for the cheapest price when choosing a mapper!

It says they're based on the topo map - presumably OS equivalent. The mappers are certainly not scared to
rotate the contours!

"Sneeky ad for Deeside?"
No Jim - just stating the bleeding obvious!
.... but it's amazing how many people don't see the obvious.
