Which was your favourite City Race?

Tough one this..and I enjoyed them all for different reasons:
York, because it has been a regular part of our orienteering calendar for several years now, and the planner keeps finding new snickleways.
Glasgow, because the route choices really made a difference and it was good to run round a lovely part of the city in the sunshine after a night in the central Travelodge.
Kingussie, because of the atmosphere of the Scottish Six Days and the spectacle of it on the main road through the town.
Lincoln, because of the historic centre and the exhilaration of running down the steep streets from the cathedral on the hill.
Warwick, because of the butterfly loops through the castle and the control in the moat - brilliant!
Oxford, because there is a surprise around every corner and the colleges just make it.
I leave the choice up to you, because I can't decide..

I have only done two but I found Warwick more exciting as the routes were more varied. I did enjoy Oxford and will now consider York perhaps.

Venice! By far and away the most enjoyable orienteering I've done all year. Not many events where I'm disappointed to see the finish line!
But if you're sticking to this country, two of my next three choices are missing from the list (which I appreciate is just UK Cities series): Scarborough and Lincoln part 1 last January.

I did 4 of the races.
I've voted for Glasgow, totally biased but it was great to do such a nice race on my doorstep and I think the setting of the start finish area was really beautiful. I also think it was planned to minimise some of the little slightly "unfair" elements of this type of race. ie it was on Sunday morning when traffic is low and the best routes avoided main roads and made use of underpasses etc. The technicality was mainly in the route choice which is ideal and means smooth orienteers who are in good shape can keep the speed really high. Not sure that was me on that particular day!

Kingussie was much more technical and intricate urban orienteering and a really great sprint race. But I was beaten by a 15 year old so I'm not going to vote for it!

Lincoln I loved because it was a good excuse to visit a beautiful city that you perhaps otherwise wouldn't. I think the map is really good there and our course had some tricky legs but it also felt like a bit of a slog at times.

Oxford was also really enjoyable and well planned but there seemed to be quite a few aspects that made it slightly unfair. Not that that affected me or the results in my class but I did hear of quite a few examples of people who benefitted from magic swipe card men at gates or took routes across olive green while noone was looking or had to stop to wait for traffic. There was also an extra unmapped fence that did affect me slightly (ye it probably cost me like 15 seconds!) All these things don't stop it being a great race venue and a fun race but would definitely stop it from being a more serious race.

The busy roads were rather a pain I guess everyone had them to cross so it was fairish, but it depends on your daring, I waited for a crossing at Warwick rather than dice with traffic, but lost valuable time so in Oxford I did slalom across the busy roads.

Glasgow gets the vote .. but the Aberdeen event would be a close, non-competitive second

Can't vote for Warwick as I had a minor role in the organisation - but I thought Iain Embrey made a magnificent job of the planning.

Kingussie was fun but I only ran the medium course as an afterthought so didn't get the full experience.

Oxford was great this year - I thought the planners did really well to give us a different experience from last year. Sure there weren't the same "wow" factors like running past Christ Church or the Radcliffe Camera but the tricky stuff was really tricky.

My vote goes to Lincoln - beautiful city I'd never been to before, perfect weather, and a course that made me think hard all the way round (even at my pace). And they got the Mayor to show up!

What is obvious is that a lot of us really like the challenge of city races. i must admit it was only in retrospect, chatting with friends that I realised I'd not done any planning ahead and therefore came out of 3 controls the wrong way. However I do feel I've made progress since my first race last year. bring them on I say ! I think that WSX are planning one next year in the Autumn. The more the merrier. Just hope we can get up to Edinburgh for the January weeken. junior has been working at the map for a long time

Any of the mid-week summer army events around the barracks! HMS Sultan (Gosport), Blandford Camp, Upavon Down, Sandhurst, Larkhill, Hermitage and also the Southdowns event at Sussex University.
