Sun-O Tours / Feb 'O' ideas

Hi All,

Does anyone fancy sharing their experiences of Sun-O Tours? Positive, negative - or both?

They certainly replied to my e-mail about Trofeo Ori-Estareja (Cantanhede), Portugal (inc a WRE) 9-10 Feb quickly and in detail!

Also, has anyone been to Portugal at that time of year before? I've checked climate graphs, but I reckon that personal experiences would be more informative.

Has anyone been to a Sun-O camp - they have suggested this one (Evora) in Portugal - and what about the quality of the maps / training routes / staff / age profile of clients? I'd be going with my girlfriend, who is about orange/light green standard.

Finally, does anyone (particularly those with time on their hands / students / seasoned procrastinators ) have any alternative holiday suggestions (preferably in Europe, with an element of sunshine and O) for any or all of 9-17 Feb?

If you want to stick to southern Europe where the weather will probably be decent enough, then there's a WRE in central Spain on the 16-17th Feb weekend.

Its based in Puertollano which is about 240km south of Madrid on the high-speed AVE rail link towards Cordoba and Seville. The terrain is described as reforested Mediterranean pine with fast areas; smooth climb; maps without excessive detail.

Been there many times in mid Feb over the years. Temp could be a bit chilly - I've always found that the Scandies find in fine & warm coming off a winter back home... but maybe from UK it's not feeling so warm.

Forests / maps are generally quite good... depends where they go.. there was a Portugal O Meet in Evora region about 4 or 5 years ago. From memory the maps were semi open scrub land... quite nice.. but nothing like the sand dunes on the coast. Beware the spikey vegetation...

We opted to go for a week in the Lake District instead, therefore eschewing the magic of a crisp and sunny Iberian winter's day for the delights of a night orienteering race near Keswick...

But one of these days, I would like to take the plunge and venture abroad to orienteer!
