If you fly to / from Prestwick airport and show your boarding pass or e-ticket, then you get half price Scotrail travel on the day of your flight. You still need to get from nearest railway station to event, so try http://www.liftshare.com which is free for anyone either offering or seeking a lift.

Re: BOC 2008
If you come on the train, Forres railway station is 4 - 5k walk from the event carpark.
EasyJet flies to Inverness from Bristol, Gatwick & Luton
Ryanair flies to inverness from East Midlands and Liverpool
EasyJet flies to Aberdeen (1.5 hrs away) from Luton
Ryanair flies to Aberdeen from Liverpool
Aberdeen also has a lot of other UK flights with BA etc
Prestwick is 3 and 1/2 hours away
It's not as far to drive as some people seem to think, Manchester is 6 hours, London 9 hrs
(obviously depends on what time of day you travel)
And yes, this exactly what those of us up here have to consider for almost all other major events - might explain why i'm opposed to the points weighting for the big races, particularly given that many are not on terrain comparable to Culbin. It will be interesting to see how many of the proponents of weighting can be bothered to make it north!

As I've already put up a posting explaining the need for weighting, I should add that I got flights from Heathrow to Inverness for £60 with British Midland last week - a price you can't get now. And please re-read my posting as you still seem to have the wrong end of the stick

Yes but when there are 5 of you.......
I'll wait for the Easyjet flights to be announced I think that will be the deciding factor

Train ain't cheap, probably good advance rates when they are available but just been looking at prices Cheltenham to Dundee. Single £97.00 return £113.00 for an individual. Also journey pretty long. Geography and Economics seem to create all these problems. Why on earth did I study them at Uni all those years ago

Looking forward to the rest of our winter night series. Helped plan/organise the first one, and can now look forward to another 17 events, all the way to March 2008. Great!! We had 56 at the first one last night, with 17 of those, novices.

About as many as I expect to manage (7 or 8 Western Night League, 5 club midweek events, 2 or 3 regional events and a couple of OD's midweek ones). I'm definitely looking forward to the night season starting for me (having also been planner at the first one) - though strangely that will be at the Southern Nights regional.

Thanks Greywolf - flights booked
Although with airport check-in, baggage, credit card charges etc, the total price climbed to just over £130 for 2 of us.
Now to find accommodation, car hire & a babysitter for the weekend who will also do the school run on Friday/Monday...

For those who are interested in the Edinburgh City Race, I've written an intro at: http://www.nopesport.com/index.php?nav=news_display&type=events&id=248
I'm excited already!

That does look very tempting (bet they'll be a bit more climb than at Warwick or Oxford)
Is it part of the UK Cities Cup programme for next year?

Love the 'no cars' recommendation if only there were more events that were so accessible.

Re: What orienteering are you looking forward to?
Edinburgh isn't going to be part of the UK Cities Cup, as that will run again in autumn next year, but it will be part of the Nopesport Urban League which will be made up of around 8 events spread over the year and will (attempt to) cover all classes, prizes and plaudits for the overall victors at the end of the year.
(ps, any other urban events wishing to be included please give me a shout).
