Supersaint
The OMM this weekend, then the November Classic weekend. Only orienteering i'm doing till the end of the year, so 2 nice weekends away should suffice until the new year.
Is Mharky running with you at the OMM? heard he had a stress fracture?

Mharky does have a(second) stress fracture, plus a hand that's cracked too!! Supersaint is doing it with a guy from work or his running club, can't remeber which

BOC 2008 will be an awesome event - Culbin East (a new area) and top class courses planned by one of Britain's ex-elite runners Steve Nicholson. The relays are being held in part of the map used last summer for the 6-Days (and also used in 1976 for the WOC relays - maybe some legs the same??!!).
The Culbin map now covers about 16km2 of wonderful sand-dunes with all levels of detail (from scattered dot knolls to impossible to map!) - come up north for the best Orienteering in Britain in 2008.
There may be a training opportunity over a weekend in February or March to train in similar dunes such as Lossie and Roseisle - expresssions of interest would be very useful.

Re: What orienteering are you looking forward to?
Am i the only one really struggling with BOC 2008. I really want to go but the cost is frighteneing. Because it's just an ordinary weekend flying seems the only option and although Easyjet have yet to release the flights (Bristol to inverness) it seems unlikely they will come in at under £50 each. The timings don't look too promising and as we are self-employed we don't get paid for time off work - it could mean a 3 night stay.
There are 5 of us so thats £250 and a car seems to be necessary (£60 - £80 Hertz). a Youth hostel is £50 a night for all of us (£100-£150) and then there is the entry fee (£47.50 - the club usually pays relays)
So thats over £450 minimum up to £530 + loss of earning maximum. It's scary.
I know the Scots wil;l say we have to do this all the time - and I know it's true - but you do at least have the compensation of the country's best terrain closer to home - so based on your past experience has anyone got any (constructive and sensible) ideas for bringing the cost down - I really would be very grateful
( and I don't much fancy a 20 hour round trip on the roads either!)

That will be birmingham to inverness £170 return with a 2.30 am departure and 4.30 am return arrival
we still have to get to and from Birmingham, A whole day off work and knackered before we get there (let alone when we get back) It will work out hardly any cheaper and a lot more exhausting
any more ideas please?

Bournemouth to Prestwick.... car hire from Arnold Clark.... or do like other countries and travel as a club with a coach from Prestwick for the weekend... easy enough to organise if people go down that road...

Better - and I'm advocating the club coach idea in Compasssport this edition as a general way forward
Flight times are a bit dodgy - I haven't given up yet keep the ideas coming:? How long would it take to get from Prestrwick to culbin - and how are other people getting there?

sleeper train
Crewe 23:45 - Inverness 08:29
Inverness 20:25 - Crewe 05:29
£333 for a family of 4
passed within 3 yards of our luxury chalet/shed accommodation at the 6 days every morning. I wonder if you can actually sleep on them.

Re: What orienteering are you looking forward to?
We've booked the preceeding week off and are turning it into a week's holiday.
We've got a cottage booked. It was a bit of a challenge finding one which would accept a Sun - Sun booking , as most will only do Sat - Sat, even at that time of the year.
The biggest challenge remaining for us is the trek back after the relays, as both boys are supposed to start back at uni on the Monday morning.
