Routegadget seems to throw up an anomoly with GPS. Why did Nick Barrable's prestart that much further from the start than Declan McGrellis's?

Also interesting how accurate the position of the features are to reality - O maps are not normally this accurate - I guess it's beacause its open and based on an accurate PG plot.

Or it could be that when posting from GPS the routes were manually adjusted to fit the controls.

I have now added route gadget for the relays. Bit of a fudge but seems to work.

I went to pop my route on for the relay, but number 2's missing. It seems to be for a few of the courses, but not all (although I think we all had the same control). Is it easy to put it on? Or shall I just pretend it's there?

Just pretend it was there. Seem to remember 215 didn't register for most. As the results info that I had was only analaysed between M and W and not by course combination, RG is simply making up a course of the controls you visited (or thinks you visited). It thinks you didn't visit 215.

The point the traces start is just the point each person chose to turn on GPS tracking - on some GPS watches that may be synchronised with the stopwatch start, but there is no need for it to be. You can also edit the GPS file before upload to RG, so that you can remove the trace of the walk to the start, for example. In doing so, it's up to you where you chose to cut the trace, and ideally you would have it start at the same position as the start line. That way, the RG animation would be correct (though still different from those people who mark their route on - their route always starts from the triangle, even though their run starts from some distance back from the triangle).

Depending on what GPS hardware you use, it will be positionally accurate to within 2-3m (best kit, in the open), but less accurate under trees, or with lower spec hardware. You might only get 10-20m accuracy. Hence when uploading GPS traces to RG, RG has the option to drag and skew the trace so that it best fits the marked control points. So the fact that uploaded traces appear to go right to the centre of the marked controls is not (necessarily) an indication of map accuracy, just an indication that the runner has fitted their GPS trace to the course.
