Planning on areas with sheep
Can anyone suggest a way to prevent sheep ripping out the canes used to mark control sites and eating the tape as I've had to replace about half the canes already and still have 4 weeks until the event (the event is Cademuir in S Scotland on 28th October).

We've been using plastic hollow tubes ( about 2cm diameter - the sort used to protect electric cable/wires - get from DIY stores) cut into 20cm lengths with the numbers written on permanent ink. Sheep haven't touched them yet. Worth a try.

Tubes are great - even better if you drill a small hole near one end, so that you can insert a thin tent peg to retain it in location.

On Yorkshire Dales land we tend to use bright plastic tent pegs. They are most likely to stay in place if hammered into the ground so that only the head is visible. A bit of tape over the head with the control code helps. Even then they are not 100% guaranteed to remain in situ.

Thanks to all who replied.
4x10cm strips of strong plastic pinned to the ground with tent pegs has worked well. They are all still there after 3 weeks.
