so yes there are many clubs up north so why don't they get together and put it on in two years time.

If you check the advance major events list, you'll see that we're scheduled to organise it in 2008. We would have offered to do it this year but we're already hosting the JIRCs in June, the weekend of the PPR itself we're running a Long-O (the day the Lincoln City race is NOT on!), and the weekend after the PPR we've got our double header National event weekend, so reckon we've got enough to be getting on with. BAOC will be a difficult act to follow if their previous organisation is anything to go on.

For those not interested in the Peter Palmer, Fungal is adjacent to Glen Tanar (Aboyne), typical Deeside forest with plenty of slope, rock and maybe even some semi-open moorland. I hear Sarah Dunn is planning, so I would expect we're in for a cracking event - can't wait!!

There's a C4 at Crathes (Banchory)on the 8th as well, so why not make a wekend of it?

Crathes is a cracking little area - needs mapping at sprint standard I reckon to get the true benefit. Should be a fantastic weekend!

Area is next to Glen Tanar (map will include a wee bit of the old Glen Tanar map) - called "Fungle" - slightly less off-putting then Fungal Parts of the area are as technical as any in Deeside (and that means GOOD) and the terrain has an amazing variety of challenges. Come along and orienteer in the best new area in Britain this year.... And book your accommodation for BOC 2008 for the best new terrain in Britain in 2008.

There's something about these Fungle comments making me think steep/tough/thick/slow. Lots of people like that sort of thing, but as it happens I don't. Am I wrong?

I can't see it on the BOF fixtures list. Fancy it after having got the taste at Speyside.

Interesting question - it must be approaching the closing date. The event is on the SOA fixtures list but there are no details how to enter.

Fair point...I'll pass that on to those who deal in these things.

Meantime I'd certainly recommend attending both events. You don't get many small areas better than Crathes, and Jon's comments about the Fungle are true. We first ran on it 18 months or so ago and it seems that it's even better than we initially thought.

Well we certainly got value for money. When did we last have an event with so little dead running? Very varied - loads of detail and what a fantastic map Jon. Pity I ran off it!!!
