AIRE Long O
Congrats to Aire for a fantastic event today. A good mix of controls and superb runnability. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

The distinctive aspects of this Long O were
1. the variety of terrain used; runnable woodland, moorland, park, rocky valley, urban, and some connecting footpath networks.
2. The number of controls used (47 on the long course) meant that the opportunity to switch off the brain and run to a distant sighting on the horizon, were extremely limited. By the end quite simple short cross country legs were proving problematic for many due to fatigue.
More importantly the Aire forum shows a great deal of enthusiasm for this kind of event at this time of the year, particularly from those preparing for the OMM.
Aire have been asked by a number of participants to "do it again" - and we probably will. But probably not next year, and probably never on an annual basis. It takes a bit of work to lay on!
Should Regional Fixtures Groups give consideration to getting different clubs to put on these events from one year to the next.
In the North we have had in recent years Long Os put on in September by SYO and MEROC, and maybe other clubs, but certainly not every year.
I notice the successive Long Os that QO and Devon are putting on in the South soon. Is there a case for the North, South, Midlands (and Wales) and Scotland considering making such an event part of the annual fixtures.
