Yeah, oli didnt make it in the qualifying, he doesnt deserve to go if he couldnt do it when it counted. Scot did, and hes learning from the experience, as hes got many years to improve.

Arnold > It's a real shame people like you are involved in our sport. It's such an easy game to play - hiding behind a log in name, kicking a guy when he's down, and complaining about selections once the WOC race is run.
The fact is that Scott very clearly ran himself into the WOC team. Oli was not a clear cut member of the team as his most recent previous international results have not been quite good enough to guarantee a place even when ill at the selection trials. Oli was unlucky to be ill, he's a great guy and will fight back for his place next year, and probably be a better athlete for it.
The selecters made a great decision selecting Scott regardless of whether he qualifies or not. He has great potential and the experience of WOC will set him up nicely for the future.
note: At Oli's first WOC in 1999 he didn't qualify for the final either, and neither did Matt Crane in 2003 - but both of them gained loads from the experience and went on to produce great results in future international races.

Out of interest and with no axe to grind- is there any reason why Oli could not have gone anyway as well as Scott? Looking at the team on the BOF news page i was surprised to see more girls than guys and quite a lot of support staff in the party. could his earlier domestic form not have justified the selection without costing anyone else a place?

I believe scot will join the core of younger athletes in the next few years, with oleg, duncan, doug, john r, rhodri and a few others all contesting for places in the team, his experience will hold him higher that the others and help him develop to possibly winning medals in 4/5 years
