It was nice to meet Donald Wallace in the car park at Alvie yesterday and remember day 1 of the first 6 days 30 years ago... in Alvie... but the nice morraine bit before the A9 was built:)

Unless I am very much mistaken there is no overlap between Alvie 1977 and Alvie 2007.
I remember that back then our course went right across the A9 with a policeman stopping all traffic for the runners (in torrential rain in my case).
Today we aren't allowed to cross much more minor roads even outside of the competition itself!

That would be the old A9... the new one cut straight through the good part of the forest... and the rest was cut down.
I think maybe the sawmill just got on the old map but certainly can't remember it going up the hill.

There was an overlap. The open slope above the finish were wooded back then - I had a 25 min error in that wood. Looks a wee bit different now.
The 1976 map (WOC warm up) extended as far as the fence at the top of the open. Some of the area is on the Alvie Muir map.
And a big thank you to all that made it such a wonderful week. Loved it, even though I was sooooo slow!
