I can't believe how much utter sh*te has been written on this thread about Glasgow and the street race this Sunday.
1. Glasgow is a top class city, especially the West End where the race will be held, all my friends who've visited agree. I have lived here for nearly 3 years & I love it and will be sad to leave.
2. The "organisers"!!! It's actually a one man effort by Ally with some help from the mapper Patrick Walder & me after I run. All he's really bothered about is organising a quality course/race for those who are taking part.
3. It doesn't rain here all the time, sounds like we've had a lot more sunshine than Sheffield over the last few weeks!
Basically the race will happen this Sunday, everyone who runs will love it and noone will be wishing you whingers could have made it along. Things can't be scheduled around everyone's personal diaries, dates of fixtures are chosen for various reasons and people can choose whether or not they want to come along & run, END OF.

It's funny how different people see things differently isn't it. It seems to me that the majority of people on this thread were expressing concern that the organiser's and planner's efforts would not be enjoyed by as many people as they warranted and looking for reasons why and how that might be avoided in future. If the organiser isn't bothered by this then we will stop being concerned.
There doesn't seem to be any criticism (except about the scoring thing which most people said didn't matter to them anyway). So why all this aggressive backlash?
Thanks Alan, the HOC committee were unanimous is their support for the date change (as they all want to take this unique opportunity to run at Warwick anyway

public transport?
I wish I could have been there but le tour is calling, having run the PWT course here a few years back training it should be a cracking place for a middle race.

Sorry, even my original comment about the scoring was meant to be constructive - a fairly simple change that might increase some people's interest. I certainly didn't mean to offend anyone. I hope the event goes well and am sorry that I won't be there myself.

I've seen Steve's new, improved and extended Lincoln map too. Totally different start/finish to the January race, that will be awesome too. In fact the whole series is going to be so damn good.

Le Tour will be class to watch.
Kelvingrove has been remapped at ISSOM as has a lot of the West End (& the map is being extended all the time), many interesting streets, alleyways, bridges, underpasses etc for tricky route choice. Kelvingrove Park itself must be one of the most beautiful parks in the UK with the towers of the museum & university providing a dramatic backdrop. I'm not surprised it was chosen for PWT 1999.
We MAY sell off leftover maps at the 6days for anyone who wants to experience a run around here on their way home (no controls/£ tbc). You could shower at the Kelvinhall international arena (2 min jog from the map) and visit KG "Scotland's must see museum" after your run. NB museums in Glasgow are free.
In response to Mrs H: My earlier comments were aimed at those people saying stuff like "Glasgow is not really a place I would want to visit" and "the race is badly scheduled". All I'm saying is the date was chosen for various reasons, take it or leave it, in some ways the low turn out helps seeing as Ally has so few helpers, and also that Glasgow is fantastic.

So what's wrong with that??? The entire world know's that the only good things to come out of Glasgow are the bus, train & road routes to Edinburgh & Stirling

I have a different perspective: if guests turn up unexpectedly at someone's home in Glasgow, they'll be welcomed in and asked "Would you like some tea?", whereas in Edinburgh they'll be greeted with "You'll have had your tea?"

Wish we were going. Glasgow is a great city - interesting and vibrant. Like all major cities it has so many gems: The Renee Mackintosh house; the Burrell collection; the street and river scenes with the hills so close. It has such an immense cultural, economic and social history. Prior commitment calls so we are off to a place called Yate tomorrow where I will attempt to throw a hammer - much prefer to be experiencing Glasgow in a sprint race. Forget Wimbledon, Silverstone or the Tour, the best sporting UK fixture tomorrow is undoubtedly The Glasgow Sprint Race.

..and we're back in showery Yorkshire! Thanks to everyone involved, Ali in particular, for a most enjoyable race with some cracking times from the fleet of foot. Crafty route choices and some tricky controls t'other side of impassable walls added to interest. Going at a slower pace, I enjoyed the ever changing face of Glasgow in the sunshine, halting at one point in serious traffic in the middle of a dual carriageway - gave the orienteering marshal on the bike a few laughs before I backtracked to safety. Well worth the car miles - will put some miles in on the bike this summer to offset the carbon footprint (topical comment)..THANKYOU again!
