Pretty poor entry.... only 29 people. Events like this need support if they are to succeed
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

Would extending the UK Cities Cup scoring down the results help? At the moment only the top 10 score points, making it just a set of individual races (rather than a series) for the average punter. If people felt they were scoring points for an overall league table would they be more likely to go to more of the races?

Absolutely, what on earth is going on? Is there entry on the day or are Gross and I missing something here? 29 is worse than poor

Only answer will be to look at why people aren't there. We've travelled to Oxford, Lincoln, Venice, Scarborough and York in the past year, as well as taking part in most of the local races (5 out of 8 ) series, so would seem to be fairly good targets. So why aren't we there?
Well a combination of:
(1) Wrong time of year: June/July we tend to compete locally and only EOD (course work, hayfever, report writing, exam marking etc. all kick in in our household)
(2) Travel fatigue - we've done a lot of O this year, and have a busy summer planned
(3) Limited attraction. Yes, I know it will be a great race, but all the other events had something extra to go with them, either multiple races, unique attraction, accompanying big event etc.
(4) Tied in with (3): nothing to really attract us. All the other races were very effectively sold to us by the organisers (and lived up to the billing). Publicity has been very low key (actually, we've seen none at all other than the nopesport mentions, and they've not exactly told us what there is other than "it's going to be a great race". They all are).
(5) As swat mentions, this would be a one-off race for us - the league is pretty irrelevant in its current format.
(6) Alternative attraction - spectating at the Tour de France.
I'm sure many of these will apply to others a lot closer geographically than us.
Hope that helps with the analysis. I also hope the race on the day is a great success.

Agree with Awk's point 3. Its a long way to go from the Liverpool area, to Oxford/Lincoln/Glasgow for possibly an hour run. More incentive and other events. We are travelling to Sheffield for Planet Fear event on 14/15 July. in addition to the Sprint O they have climbing and other sports to entice participation.

Yes but 29?
I agree that Glasgow is a long way, 300 miles from me, and even orienteers have to prioritise what they can and can't go to, carbon footprint and all(
). But Glasgow is a big city, Edinburgh is just up the road, it's hardly a rural backwater and isn't miles from everybody.
Maybe my incredulity is aimed more at Scottish orienteers than those darn sarf. Anyway it's probably too late to worry about it now
