I quite like it (not sure "podiums" is correct - should it be "podia"?)

BO Central itself has some considerable way to go to carry out its stated intentions such as respecting volunteers and making sure they are not overburdened - I think it would set a very good example if they were seen to be making some efforts in those departments before they started expecting the rest of us to tick all the boxes.

But by and large I think it shows the right priorities and is a step in the right direction.

Yes, but with podiums presumably meaning top 6, and medals meaning top 3, somewhat less ambitious.

Out of interest, where did the top 6 / podium places thing originate from? Do any other sports do it? I'd never heard of this until I started orienteering and reading Focus and CompassSport.

reading the draft Council minutes it looks like it was "more podium-places" as the 3rd "P" (and 4th!) But they decided to drop the "- places".

And yes, the plural of podium is podia (according to the OED)

But agree wholeheartedly with message anyway

Forums (or fora), gymnasiums (or gymnasia), podiums (or podia)

In English -ums is sometimes preferred.

= short, snappy and incomprehensible to anyone outside the sport. I ran it by a few non-orienteering acquaintances yesterday, none of whom understood what "podiums" was all about, and after explanation, most said "shouldn't that be podia?"

the rest of the vision doc on the BOF website seems very sensible and clear, just a shame IMHO that they couldn't go with "more medals"
