Nopesport Variety Pack has six runners so is still one short, and Stodge is now off-web until the event. Please PM me if you'd like to run. Leg allocation flexible; only legs 2 (short night) and 7 (long day) are definitely taken.

Why is the Harvester so sexist. The B course is available for females and then the legs are 4Km/6Km and 9Km the latter being elite / W21 distance and there are 2 of those legs in the 5. We have several females at our club who do night O but they are nearly all over 45. It could be a very long event if we put our team in cos I would do 4K and take more than 1 hour and I reckon the others would take 1.5 to 2 hours for 6 and 9 K. With a 1:30 start that could mean about 10:30 finish in my book.If I've got my sums right.

I'm sure I've heard you say that before Hocolite.
Why is that sexist? Elitist possibly, not sexist. Surely it's actually the other way round - why do Men get to do 7 legs, women only 5. If you turned out a team of M45+ short course runners you'd be out many hours on the A as well.
Bottom line is most average orienteers stopped going to the Harvester and hence aren't catered for any more. I'm sure if you promised the organisers 20 teams on a C course for next year there would be one put on, but in reality there wouldn't be more than 5.
Really looking forward to it. So who's going to be kicking my butt on 1st leg then?

Why 'Yawn' Nails. We want people to attend events and the Harvester is one in particular that suffers from a low entry. It was at risk of being cancelled. You are elite great you get your course and can cope. Remember the officials etc have to wait for everyone to get back and then clear up. I've been there recently three days in a row. I don't know but I expect the lengths of the courses will mean us cancelling one of our three entries or perhaps we should be bloody minded and all walk round and keep everyone waiting just to get some UK relay points
By the way this is the same course for the junior relay, so a club needs two juniors capable of 9K and one of these at night. Then a further two to do 6K at night. I accept you can run M/W 20's on the junior relay but I suspect if a club has a good M/W 20 they are likely to be running the A course. At this time of year older juniors are tied by exams so I suspect the entry for the junior relay to be 1 or 2 teams.

Hmmmm... 9km is a pretty long day course for this M50.
In fact I've only ever run that twice. I normally run around 6km in the day and a medium leg at the Harvesters.
- it's gonna be a long night ... bring it on.
It's a good job I have a 10hour battery pack.

Sorry the yawn was reference to how I was feeling at work.
It's the harvester its always been like that.
Perhaps writing to the Jukola organisers and asking them to shorten all the courses would be a good idea? Oh and if anyone fancies it perhaps a call and letter to FIFA asking that womens football be shortened to 30mins each way?

Which may be part of the reason it's struggling to get numbers (as it has for some time).

Looking at the Venla relay, I don't see any long night legs?

Yes, but I think Carol's point is that the women are running longer than the men: the slower/older men can run 'down' on the B - it's long even for them (see Harley's post). Their female equivalents can't (although some women may regard running the B as running down anyway).
I'm not saying that the Harvester should change the format: it depends what is trying to be achieved but if there is apparently a problem with numbers, then maybe Carol has a point. Personally, I think the distances and balance look about right given the speedy nature of the area (maybe a slightly shorter long night, but only slightly). At least the distances at the event do - the financial and physical distances from home were way too great for me - more than it's costing me to get to the O-ringen for instance.

From my experience there are a few reasons why the numbers are low. It's during the exam period so many juniors and students are revising or even have exams during the weekend, the lack of sleep is not good when you have exams coming up. You effectively lose a nights sleep and with the competition being so far for many the combination of driving and little sleep is not appealing. The issue of length is maybe an issue but not one of the main ones, I think if there is a reasonable balance of long medium and shorter legs its not a problem. This year I would say that the night legs aren't varied enough in distance.
