The last time I read up, this had become the standard recommendation, at least for those in the highest risk zones, because the tests don't tend to show a positive result for a few weeks, and the best chance for a full recovery is to start antibiotics in the first 3 weeks. (Wait too long and, you may need a year of antibiotics, and maybe only partial recovery...as a friend of mine discovered.) I have several orienteering friends who've had Lyme disease. Take it seriously. (And make sure you're doc is knowledgeable about the kind of things you're at risk for...I always found chatting with doctors who were orienteers, for instance, far more useful and enlightening than talking to a non-orienteering GP.)

LOC had the good idea of leaving fliers giving guidance on Lyme Disease at download at the Caw Fell event today.
Some people might think ticks are not around this early, wrong, they were active last month at Harrop Tarn so are probably even more active now!

I think we should not orienteer in areas known to contain ticks. As a responsible sport we should not be putting participants in the way of danger.
Go orienteering in Lithuania......... best in the world:)

I think we should not read most posts by Gross. As a responsible sport we should not be putting participants in the way of his warped sense of humour.
