JK rankings have appeared today

...but the scores don't seem to be included in the class tables. Any idea why?

They're included in mine. Maybe you just need to do a refresh if you've looked at it recently.

And the JK 2006 results need to be removed from the events that are included as they fall outside the rolling 12 month period........

I can see the JK events in the list if I view by date, but not if I view by serial number.

Except that the rolling twelve month period looks at the date of the most recently submitted event, so as yet the JK 2006 days do not fall outside it.

Once a more recent event is submitted then doubtless they will disappear automatically, in the same way that the system has operated for years.

I am sure your clubmate who maintains the ranking system for BOF will be pleased to accept your apology.....

Harrop Tarn results now in and as you said JK 2006 results have dropped off.

In the unlikely event that the results for a very old event that were never submitted are now sent in, does this mean the list looks at that event date and takes events within the 12 months before that date??

If so then it seems another reason for timely submission of results.

What is there to do to assist (club mate or anyone else) when the system automatically updates when new results are submitted?

The original point I made was how to get clubs to submit the results, said by others to be an easy process. It's part of orgainising the event.

How about offering to keep a list of all the Ranking events, and then if the results haven't been submitted, say, two weeks after the event, reminding the organiser that they need doing.

Sending results off to the Rankings is one of those things that is easy to miss, falling between the organiser and whoever does the results. A reminder that it still needs doing will probably fix the problem.

Agree. Have just completed the Harrop Tarn upload..... A reminder form is posted to each organiser by BOF with instructions on what to do. The organiser hands it to the appropriate person!

However, it is not a painless job. The results are 'worked' using Michael Napier's tools programme into the correct format, and then uploaded. The Rankings site goes through the file and lists all the errors and missing data. You then have to go back to the event software and make all the necessary corrections. This is usually wrong names, missing BOF numbers or incorrectly entered BOF numbers. And then you go through the whole process again.

If someone complains that they are missing from the rankings list for some reason.... then you have to investigate, rework the event file and upload the file again. I can certainly see why organisers (or whoever) sigh(!!!!) and take a deep breath when setting out on the task. Going through the procedure once every two or more years will certainly involve a learning process. It isn't difficult.... just time consuming.

I suspect that for the elite then the ranking list is meaningless since they train to peak for specific events, almost all of which are outside of the British Ranking Lists. Whereas the Ranking list is more a measure of consistency over a longer period.

If we exclude the 21E then I've found the list reasonably representative at the top. M40 has Charlie Adams followed by Clive Hallet, M45 also looks OK. My position is usually about right, 95% of those above me I accept would normally beat me, whilst those below I more often than not beat!!!...

Further down the list you may find less accuracy as competitors are able to achieve higher points at some far flung event with little to no competition. But does it matter?

Why do we not include the juniors? Juniors would probably be even more motivated by Ranking Lists than Jo Average orienteer.

I'm guessing this is sarcasm, so if the 21's are also OK what are people bitching about?

Can only mean people think that whether you are ranked 57 or 65 is not accurate enough!

A trial junior ranking was done about 10 years ago but it was deemed not to be good for juniors to have rankings, or maybe good for parents of juniors, as juniors tend to be erratic and also 'more prone to emotions'so giving a list for them or their parents to relate to was considered to be a bad idea.
