Nick Bateson
Bad news, Nick died in a cycling accident at Basra Air Station on Tuesday. He will be sadly missed by everyone that knew him.

Bungy Bateson
More detail can be found on the BAOC website at www.baoc.org.uk
Nick was one of the real characters of Army orienteering, the man never seemed to stop running, which reflexed his O style, if at first you cannot find the control then visit every other site nearby. Nick was known to us all as Bungy, but he was such a nice guy that nobody really cared if he did tag along for a few.
We have all lost a great pal, he was a stalwart of BAOC relay teams and will be sorely missed. Keep running Nick!

From my Dad:
Look forward to seeing everybody at the Nick Bateson Memorial charity event tomorrow. Weather forecast is excellent, bracken is beautiful, challenging course and well worth the trip.
Hope to see you there,
Axel

Re: Nick Bateson
The event was great fun. I was thinking about Nick as I ran a 'recce' loop on Nick's Race; he would have loved the format and indeed the whole afternoon. Many thanks to BAOC for having the imagination to put on such a diverse series of events.
For me, the reminder on the final details said it all: "Have fun and orienteer like Nick, that means running fast just because you can, don't worry too much about the 'nav' and have a smile and a chat with everyone."
A fitting tribute indeed.

Great event. A fitting memorial to a super guy. Loved the informal atmosphere and all the diverse events. There were both experienced orienteers there and people having there first try. It was super to see a young lad on his tenth try around the speed punching, then tell his mother what great fun he'd had.
WWell done BAOC. hope this is the first of many. You were definitely right in having starts \available to the evening as you got so many people coming after work. Thank you

Was an excellent and enjoyable event in glorious weather. Congrats to the numerous volunteers who must have had very long days planning and manning the courses, (including erecting temporary features on the AMAZing sprints!)
Think I totalled 7 runs and over 100 controls; and along with Southdowns 3-in-1 event (3 runs and over 50 controls), I think theres steam coming off my Emit card
