I agree with a lot of what's been said here (about helping competitiors who've fallen etc.) except the "Major Dilemma" with the little girl. I don't think it should cross your mind not to stop.
Maybe it's because I remember what it was like to be lost at a young age and the terror of trying to find someone to ask them for help, but I make sure any young child on a course is OK, even the ones that don't look lost!
I like to think that this will make them more comfortable if they need to ask for help and also about their own safety.
However, in relation to talking to other competitors, I know my mum is put off by the meer presence of another competitor and my friend swears there is a man who hides in the bushes and waits for her just so he can have a chat with her! I think small talks great but it can be off putting.
