Like I said in an earlier post the price of O-kit is barmy. £400 for a simple tunnel tent, you can get one for less than half that, but it will be a "family camping" tent rather than a specialist O-club tent. You only need to use the flysheet in assembly areas, but you still have the inner with separate "rooms" if you want to actually use it for camping. Just have a look on the Blacks website, or similar, and check their clearance lines for bargains. You pay £400 for specialist mountain tents not a basic tunnel for assembly fields.

Agree they are expensive, but they are also light - important if assembly is a couple of km away from parking. If anyone knows of a cheaper tent, of similar size, that is anywhere close to being as light, then please let us all know!

does anyone else remember when craney deliberately snapped the poles for the junior squad tunnel tent? mr jenkins was NOT happy.

from what i can remember, i think craney actually grabbed the pole and bent it over his knee until it snapped. and thats not a word of a lie.

There is a bit of a trade off weight wise, but assembly is rarely that far away and the weight can be split 2 or 3 ways. It really isn't that bad or we wouldn't have bought one. I guess it depends how much you have to spend.

However you can get a lot more people and kit inside a tunnel teant compared to an old style family tent. It's worth it for that alone. son=me clubs even have two tunnel tents!! They are also great at events. some smaller events we manage to get all the organisational teams in the one tent!!
