I take it that only the top 'x' can run in the final as there were 110 women in the heats and only 60 in the finals. I also presume that the large number of overage on the junior courses were EOD's. Interestingly in most cases the juniors beat the 'older folk'
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

Running off map
Does anyone know if it is allowed to deliberately run off the map (as a short-cut)? or is it just down to bad planning that it is apossible route-choice?
Mens Sprint Final Course A - at least 2 runners seen running North from start, round building and off map.

What a fantastic day's racing. Thank you to Ebor for a wonderful event. Thank you to Neil for a superb map.
Someone once described sprint orienteering as "mindless/boring", "technically trivial campus cantering", neither sufficiently "challenging" nor "totally immersive". Obviously weren't in Scarborough this weekend!

Can't see a problem - surely it must have been further if it's not on the map -if they've got the confidence to go off the map - good luck to them!

The Women's C Final is not listed in the index of simple results, only the A and B Finals. You can find it listed in the split times index (Course 2B).

Just to support the positive comments already made, that was a fantasic day. Great maps, great courses, great setting, pure genius to set up on the beach, great organisation, spectacular weather with the sea mists rolling around like something from a John Carpenter film yet assembly stayed in sunshine throughout. Well done EBOR.
I don't think I was the only spoon that ran straight past the control in the underpass, but the embarassment to pop out straight into Nev saying "read the map its all on there" will stay with me for a while
Just a plea to shoe manufacturers; can someone design a shoe with retractable spikes like cats have, some of those grassy slopes were like sheet ice in flat road shoes, highly amusing at "speed"

Mine and daughters first ever sprint race. If this is what they are all like then we'll be at a lot more of them in the future. Had a great time, really enjoyed the quick decision making and how quick the next control seemed to come.
Thanks to everyone involved for a superb day.

it's comments like this that a lot of people who are trying to promote the 'sprint' discipline love to see!
glad you enjoyed it

Disagree. If the off-map route is sigificantly quicker than the on-map route - which is quite possible in Sprint-O when there can be convoluted route choices, uncrossable fences etc - then this could give a significant advantage to people with local knowledge.
I think off-map choices should be out-of-bounds, or at least planned so that they are clearly a poor choice.
