Well, sad though it is, reading this thread inspired me to dig out the old maps from my youth
Lowest I could find was Badby from the late '70's(although this is superceded by Adel Woods this year), and last was Yateley Heath from 1980... All mine are stuffed in box files with (now fading) results lists loosely associated somewhere nearby..

Drobin, Forest of Ae (Dumfries) would beat Caw. I think I've got a map of it but I never orienteered there when I lived in Scotland.

Can confirm Ae Forest used for Scottish Six day 1991 and a Scotlandsgallopen 1992 where I only managed 79 mins for 7.7km and Martin Dean only 75 which suggests it was pretty tough and just as well it has been cut down!!!

Has it? Went biking there earlier this year, and still plenty of trees.

Tree growth...
AR check the date - Jethro said 1992, which gives 14 years for the trees to have grown back.

I had not realised the potential for creating interest in events in such a novel way.
I sometimes have difficulty finding a new name for a marginally different map area but now see that something like Aardvark Wood would be attractive for those who can only count Abraham's valley as their first in the alphabet.
Then I am sure that some would like to make sure that there are maps for every letter of the alphabet as well. So following could be Xylene Spring.
Which letters are sparse and I will see what can be done.
It is a shame that Anorak's Copse doesn't come further up.

And leg pulling.
Anyway - get with it.... Anorax!
As someone who used to spend a lot of time in the Ae area, I was amazed that it was ever used.. Bet it was rough. Most of the biggish trees have gone now, replaced by that obscene weed Sitka spruce.

As a matter of interest - are our maps in any of the copyright libraries.
The mundane world's maps are all kept by the National Library or British Library - are ours available to future researchers?

can't believe i'm replying to this thread... i shaved my beard off months ago, my training kit all has fancy logos on it and my bramble bashers come out about once a year at most.
and i'm very much of the "all in a big box" persuasion.
the question i would like answered is... does anyone store their maps on a comp-yoo-tur? that way they can be sorted anyway you like.
if so, what sort of database do you use? i'd be interested in setting this up, but i'm looking for some tips.
anorak off now.
