I can't believe I'm replying to this topic, but I will admit to:

Abrahams Valley to Yoxeter Ranges

Mine and Stodges maps filed together in alphabetical order: most up to date map only, but both maps if different scales of same area.
2 files for the UK, 1 for abroad (alphabetical for countries, not areas, of course ).

BTW has anyone else noticed that by far the most popular letter for an area to start with is B?

And yes, my green pertex colour co-ordinated with my green and purple lycra tights...

I feel a bit of a fraud here. I've got all my old maps divided into C4 and below and C3 and above, filed aphabetically in big lever arch folders, and I also possess some really tasteful lycra, but I've never owned a pertex top, can I call myself a true orienteer without one?

PS. I do have a beard and bald head though so they must count for something

My maps are filed by printing process used... (offset, laser etc), then by mappers name, and finally by the standard deviation of my minutes per km per leg.

An evening?!! We've got a whole large cupboardful, even after the three kids have taken all theirs!! They are sorted by date to go alongside results books!!

Results booklets sorted in chronological order you say... I find sorting results by the degree of adherence to BOF guidelines on course winning times to be much more useful.

Maps I have run on, are all filed in display books - back to 1974
Other maps(the collection) obtained by purchase, swapping, scrounging or as gifts - cheers you know who you are, are stored in various bags, files and boxes kept in a big box. Can be fun retrieving them - but I know where most are.

(just had a look, I have an old 1980s Abbey Wood, swapped at Caperceilidh 1982 - famed for the first outing of the Trossachs)

Am I the only person to have a huge drawer where I shove all maps in, in no particular order? (Despite always carefully assessing mistakes, marking routes on, and noting down time lost per leg, this is where they all inevitably end up.)

Keeping it the Uk, I have Abbey Fields in Kenilworth (It does have a BOF reg). Youlbury appears last in my collection as well.

Try and keep the maps by geographical area.. but it's a balance between that and Carnage Head's approach.

Now stricktly speaking that's not true is it Graeme? Consider the following scenario:

Phil discovers he has a long lost Eskimo cousin called Anorak- and after some initial correspondence Anorak decides to visit him - but flights from Greenland are notoriously unreliable so Phil sends Mrs Anorak (who is staying at home) a text to say "let me know if Anorak catches the plane and IF you want me to meet him off it".

Mrs A. (who is running out of battery) repsonds in the briefest (but correct) way she can.... Anorak's on Please........

Guys, you are really beginning to worry me - the level of enthusiasm this thread is exuding makes me wonder if there is a piece of medical research waiting to be done here:

Is there an higher occurance of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or Asberger's Syndrome amongst orienteers?
