How to join two clubs, without joining BO(F) twice?

Now that membership of an orienteering club also requires you to join British Orienteering (as either a National or Local member), how do I join two clubs (one open, one closed), without joining (and paying) British Orienteering twice?

I've read all the membership stuff, but can't see anywhere where this is mentioned.

I don't know which clubs you are trying to join, but certainly my club has a 'local' club membership for exactly this purpose, and I know of several other clubs that do too.

If memory serves me correctly, BOF left this open as an option for clubs for those people who had no intention of joining BOF for whatever reason, or were BOF members through other clubs.

I'd suggest you talk to the club directly and find out what they are doing for this. If they haven't got this category then they need to set it up.

doesn't your renewal form have a space for 2nd club (eg. a closed club)?
that's where I'll put UWOC on mine

If you weren't already any sort of member I don't know what the new form looks like but just write two clubs on it at a guess

martin- this is interesting as i have just again become a member of BOF*, and on the form i put down clubs as OD and SPOOK, but when my membership stuff came through the mention of SPOOK was found absolutely nowhere...

*Or BO. whatever. i don't understand. or care.

I had another query about my renewal so phoned Brit O office this morning. I also checked what to do with UWOC and was told to list it as my second club on the form

they might just have missed it Mr. Furness, phone/email them?

What do most of you students do about clubs. Do you join BOF thro your "home" club, with your closed uni club as second club, or vice versa? Does it mean you can run in say the BOC relays or CompassSport Cup for whichever club you wish, or only your first club?
Just need to find out what is general practice.

I put UWOC as my second club but there is no "First Claim" status in orienteering, I can choose who to run for in relays (and CSC I guess but it would be impressive for a closed club to have the right age range to do well in that!)

but, you can only score for one club in the UK Relay League each year so might have to declare one of your teams non-comp for that (but still comp for the actual relay) if you run for both clubs that year.

For individual races you are really representing both clubs

Yes, my renewal form does list two clubs, but sending that form back (with some money) only joins me to the first club, and to BOF.

I also want to join the second club, but without paying the BOF bit of the membership fee again.
