further to the news story on the front page, this is the embargoed area in aviemore (approximately - as close as i could remember based on the info we were given at the weekend).
(the nopesport back-end doesn't seem to be liking up loading pictures at the moment.)

Brilliant area... we looked at it when arranging World Students in 1992 but permission was a problem. (but not in the least like the sprint area in Kyiv... but neither is Stirling Uni)
Interestinly enough the Aviemore YH is on the embargoed area.... but the Aviemore bunkhouse isn't... and if anyone needs accommodation on Friday / Saturday nights in the bunkhouse then you should contact me

From what I know of the WOC terrain I'm not sure Craig Leach is all that like the long area either. It certainly isn't especially quick these days.

Isn't the YH the red triangle just S of the area? However, I think the bar of Cairngorm Hotel is going to be in it!
Cheers,
Patrick

Paddy & Rach are correct - the YH isn't quite on Rocky's map.... but the Cairngorm Hotel is... which means the Old Bridge is a good alternative which is next door to Aviemore Bunkhouse
And the terrain at Carse is about as close to WOC middle / relay as you can get in Scotland I'd guess....... so looks like a great weekends orienteering for all involved
Good luck to potential WOC 2007 runners!

Still is a problem. I thikn there are certain restrictions regarding numbers of competitors so a selection race is ideal as its a quality area.
