I remember seing a video a while back, of Mharky and Rocky I think. They were just filmed running through a forest quickly with good control flow etc.
Does anyone know where I can get a copy of this or anything similar as I'd like to show it in an assembly at school.
Thanks!

A group of us are thinking about producing some orienteering promo DVDs, both general and for specific events. We have the technology, and plenty of raw ideas, but we are having a big debate about use of music. Lots of people on Nopesport have made videos/DVDs, what is the official position re. use of music for soundtracks, are we likely to get in deep water if we lift certain things off the net or our own CD collections? I guess theoretically we can't use stuff without the owner/copyright holder permission, and we know that there are lots of sites offering royalty free music. But I reckon I've seen lots of great videos where it is highly unlikely that copyright or permission has been sought. Is anyone really bothered about this or should we play it strcitly by the book?
I'm not trying to put anyone in a situation where they are encouraging us to break any law, or pontificate at us for that matter, we just want a feel for how these things are made. Ta

i had the same idea a few years ago, having all the necessary equipment and too many ideas. The only reason i didnt go ahead with it, was becuase of the music, i couldnt work out how to get around it. Most o videos now, are swedish jobbie, with 1970's music backing up, elderly women walking down finish chutes. And thats not what anyone wants to watch. i wondered aswell about where the limit is, if you plan to sell something and sell 100 copies, no music people will care, if you sell a 1000copies, they probably still wont, but where is the limit? keep us informed about what you find out.
Go orienteering in Great Britain......... its financially better off than Australia:)

We weren't intending to sell them, just use them for publicity, either recruitment type things at CATIs, or as an advert for specific events. One of our guys has made some videos for work and found some royalty free websites that you can use for the soundtrack. The music is pretty generic, but hopefully we can find something usable. We've had lots of private advice saying "don't take risks with copyright", and that is probably very fair comment. But as you say many bands won't be so bothered if they realise what we're using it for. Some up and coming bands may even be glad of the publicity, depends how good the videos look!
We had a display up at a big road race in Lincoln in the Spring, with the latest BOF DVD playing on a laptop in our tent, it went down well and sowed the seeds for something a bit more specific. We'll definitely let people know how we get on, and if the videos are any good you'll be the first to see them!

Nope DVD
I wouldn't mind buying a copy of the Nope DVD too, mainly as a recruitment tool for the school orienteering club. No copyright issues with the tunes, I hope, as the soundtrack 'made' the DVD.
Any idea if it may go back on sale?
