I have been meaning to do this all summer..but only getting around to it now!
In the summer of 1996 16 young orienteers embarked on a trip they would remember for the rest of their lives!
Ste 'howling mad'Shaw
Allan 'caterpiller'Bogle
Rachael Elder
Ruth King
Alistair 'i like dressing up as a girl'Footit
Lisa Brown
Simon 'poo finger'Ross
Lucy Moosely
Bruce 'hung like a donkey'Duncan
Helen Palmer
Iain 'i look like I am on drugs'Stamp
Hannah 'did you see the elk?'Wooton
Emily Coon
Alex 'I have never been to Northern Ireland'Lyne
Matt 'i still look the same age'Crane
Matt 'no relation to Helen'Palmer
It is hard to beleive it was 10 years ago...
Alot has happened since then...
5 of the 16 still compete at the top level (elite)(AB HP MC HW RE)
4 of the 16 have won international medals (MC HP HW RE)(but not Allan YET!!)
4 still compete regularly (that I know of) (BD MP LM IS)
And just about everyone has snogged everyone else in the last 10year (we all liked eachother alot)
If you were lucky enough to have been on the 1996 Halden tour please write and say what you are doing now..and your memories of the tour..include photos if you can!!

Good grief, 10 years! We were there too! (but not so young

There was also one very young orienteer on that tour, competing on the smatroll courses, who is also still competing, as an M14!

!!! do you remember..
Purple hair, paisley pants & king of the mountains, naked cliff diving, admiring yvette's muscles, trying to beat michael johnson's 200m WR on grass on the way to the beach, just chatting on the ferry for 7 hours, SLAM!, pants relays on the ferry, JD, Jez and crazy Jo gatecrashing & Stina Fasting the beautiful gatecrasher, bum sliding races in the showers, being locked in the sauna, hashing, marsh swimming during the hash..
10 years!
even Robert "Bob" Kelly is all grown up now.
Not sure about the rest of us..
But Lisa Brown is still competing for FVO she lives in Edinburgh works as a physio and drives a cinquecento (smart girl)
Alistair is a tattooed officer in the RAF and flys fast jets.
Ruth King is also still orienteering occasionally.

10 years!!!
Yep I was there (was it really 10 years ago). Not sure I want to see the photos though!
I did notice a certain name in M14 and remembered the youngest member of that trip! Got two of those small people myself now!
Good to see that a number of you are still around, and competing at a high level.

Allan Bogroll, Mellons Palmher, the memmories are flooding back.....
Ash - Oh Yeah
Forrest Dump competition - comprehensively won by Ste
Learning Ste's viewpoint on whether wet moss was better than leaves
Craneys haircut after Ross had taken a few chunks out of it!
Watching Rachels fruitless attempts to sort it out.
Taking sleeping bags and mattresses to Mr Kellys thrilling briefings! (in hindsight - very useful, but boy could he talk!)
Visiting sex shops
"loosing" deck chairs over the side of the ferry in the wind
Watching Bogrolls shamless attempts to pull any girl that didn't speak in his native tounge - failing
On the ferry watching pot plants running in to the lifts being chased by Siggy, then watching Siggy running being chased by security (or was that 1997?!)
the list could go on....
As for me 'looking like I'm on drugs'. I thought the slightly long hair was a cool look at the time. As the photo is not up, who could argue?!
Nowadays I am a social orienteer doing a few events here and there.
