The notes on BOF front page includes the following:
As a principle it is expected that all participants
unable to produce a British Orienteering
membership card will be expected to pay the
full entry fee and not be eligible for the £2 entry
Surely that is not possible? What happens to members of other National Federations who turn up at competitions - are they expected to pay more???

I can't see a problem from a competitor point of view - I keep my BOF card in my wallet, and if it's an EOD event, I need my wallet with me to pay for my entry. Pre-entry and you already give your BOF number.
The queues at registration while people hunt down their BOF cards will be interesting for a while...

I can't see this being a problem if every club follows the same rules. It would however be quite easy for one club to be quite forceful and demand to see everyones cards while the following week the guys on reg just think well i know him, im sure he's a BOF member, and what of those people we know are BOF members but have forgotten their cards, again you will get people one week saying its ok mate we know you while the following the guy who forgot his card will have to pay extra.
I dont know about other nations getting a discount, do we get one when we go abroad cos were with BOF?

It's not a discount though... that's the use of a word. It's a surcharge to non BOF members & you can't operate a dual pricing policy to members of other IOF Federations....
But apart from that can't see anything wrong with having to show you BOF card at registration....

Gross has a good point.
The object of the rule is to make Britons who orienteer join BOF. The idea is that charging non-members more will encourage them to join. Foreigners orienteering during a visit should not be expected to pay more.
I sometimes orienteer overseas, and would be really pissed off to be charged more than the locals. Possibly to the extent of finding a different event in a different country to go to.
I'm sure the organisers of events like the Scottish 6 Days would be really pleased to have to put different prices for UK and foreign competitors in their brochure, even if it is dressed up as a discount for BOF members.
And don't get me started on not allowing foreigners to run in the British Championships, talk about unfriendly and unwelcoming....
