I have always had a compass in my hold baggage, it has never frozen, and they always seem to point north.

You joke but have you heard about the coach that locked all their clothes in the washing machine within an hour of arriving on a two week tour . . . :oops:

Just realised that I did have a compass in my hand luggage during the recent security restrictions. Was the one which lives in the waist pocket of my little AR rucksack (just about small enough for the most restrictive rules). It appears the liquid inside it didn't get picked up by the scanners :shock:

Never had a problem with compasses in the hold. Top tip though - don't dry out your thumb compass strap by putting the compass on top of a radiator :oops:

I tried to dry my splits print-out on Sunday by standing a hot mug of tea on it. Then I realised it was thermal printer paper - doh!
