Well done to all the GB team. Had some great runs there today. Made for good watching!
Quick word re: the Andrew and car incident. The car had pulled up and parked beside a control so that the control was right behind it. The controller for the event was actually at the car with another official trying to explain to the driver that a World Champs was taking place and that no, he couldn't park there, when Andrew arrived. So all a bit of confusion. When Andrew arrived to the finish, and was warming down, he noticed how close he was to 15th and with the advice of some other team's leaders put in a protest. He was very surprised to see it accepted (and was delighted!) and reckons that in large part it was due to the controller actually being at the site of the incident.
Long distance tomorrow is going to be good
Will be there watching. Good luck to everyone taking part.

Looking at the routes of the boys DQ'ed, it looks like the hedge/fence between controls 16-17. Scans of the routes/map a bit hazy - it maybe a Fence and a Hedge. I think in a WOC final, towards the end of a very fast race, you need to ensure that you have run, re-run and thought really hard about every single leg. 3 people DQ'ed I think at the same place (Troys map not uploadad yet - if at all...). 6% of the field near enough. Looks to me as if it would have been wise to have taped the hedge/fence to reinforce the fact that you cant cross it (altough in reality it was obviously physically possible.)
This aside (Speakey will live to fight another WOC), a very well done to Team GBRs fine Sprint Finalists.

It really is fascinating looking at the maps with the routes drawn on. Everyone made some mistakes somewhere, and it makes a mockery over the way some of us mere mortals agonise over lost minutes when these guys and girls can win or lose over lost tenths of a second.
You can see where the guys got DQed, and it really was down to rushing to gain an advantage near the end and misreading the fine map detail. Looks like good planning to me, that tight little loop near the end caught a lot of people out apart from the DQs.
I just wish I could run that fast, let alone make decisions that quick, awesome effort team GB.

Passability/Impassability
I think part of the problem is that the impassable wall/hedge symbol in ISSOM just isn't as obvious as the corresponding symbol for impassable fence with its double ticks, you only have to compare the area that the guys got DQ'd in with the area round the arena to see that, the fences are clearly impassable the walls/hedges are not. Reading the various blogs it's obvious that what was passable/impassable was a problem for many runners. I wondered if a better symbol for impassable wall/hedge would be one similar to the ISOM symbol for wall with dots on and a plain black or green line would mean passable rather than at the moment where it's shown with 50% colour.

Don't worry Tony, you'll get used to being shot down in flames if you hang around here for a while - just some do it more subtly than others
Quite reasonable to post an opinion, even if it's wrong (in the opinion of those who know better). On your particular point, I'll note that it's a lot easier to spot things like this at leisure than in the heat of a Sprint competition, though it seems one of the skills of top class Sprint racing is picking the routes round OOB.

I'm with Tony on this one. The impassible wall symbol (black line, 0.4mm thick) is too similar to the passible cliff (black line, 0.3mm thick), impassible cliff (black line, 0.5mm thick) and the ISOM symbol for a road. On a 300dpi print, that 0.1mm difference is only one pixel. Since the dotted symbol exists for a wall in ISOM, I dont see why they couldn't have kept it in ISSOM.
Not an excuse here of course, if you're running in the WOC final you ought to know what the symbols are (and the map will have been better than 300dpi!).
