Yeh - its not all over yet.
I'm beginning to quite enjoy Clive Allen's weather reports and lost property announcements - and it sounds like caught Speaky having a quick fag behind the PA van!

sounds noping harsh to me mate.
if I read it right its a problem with their technical equipment, and thus not Oli's fault.
feel sorry for the lad, especially after an excellent run and obviously being in good shape....maybe GBR can make another appeal, hope so.....

That's the problem with SI... it screws up & there nothing you can do but shrug your shoulders... tough cookies on the runners... now with emit there would have been a nice little back up card to prove the control had been visited... either SI should become foolproof or only emit should be used for important races....

It's a shame that the technology can screw things up like that. Don't know more than that written in Wattok's report, but did they query the relevant SI unit to see if there's a record of the punch in there? In that sort of situation when it's clearly the fault of the SI and not of the competitor - how are you to know it hasn't worked? - the organisers etc really should do their utmost to check. Esp. in a World Champs... Bad luck Oli - you'll just have to kick butt in the relay now.

Apparently they are not allowed to look at the SI box for confirmation that he was there. According to my sources this is what happened to Heather Monro at the World Cup in Italy. They looked at the box after the event and ws able to say that Heather did punch correctly but they were not allowed to use any information gained as evidence to change the results. This is the same situation here at WOC 2006 as far as i understand

I reckon the simplest and fairest solution available is to allow 15runners + Oli from his heat to qualify for the final. Oli would be first starter in the final which isn't ideal but atleast he'd have chance.
It's totally crazy a technical equipment mistake can destroy a whole years training. The more I think about it, the more it pisses me off.
