Ta again for the info.
Why UMOC as camels? can't quite see that!
My apolgises. I did not mean to say that AU's are evil, especially considering the range of support that is given by them. But they seem to be killing most of our teams cash flows, by not paying expenses months and months after the event!
I retract the statement about the AU

Whilst we're on universities - any Newcastle students or ex-students around?
UNOC has been resurrected over the last couple of months but if anyone has any ideas, or is at Newcastle/will be in September, let us know!
Cheers!

Great discussion on UMOC (Umoc we smile) and Harald Harung. I was there along with Steve Roberts, Mike Wimpenny, Barry Clayton and Tony Haughton.
Yes Haralds were intervals over the length of a rugby field. It was a regular monday night session at the Fallowfield sports ground behind Owens Park, using the street lights of road on the other side of a big wall.
We started running on the try line as the secondhand of the watch got to the top. (yes this was pre digital) Having sprinted the length of the field you rested for the remainder of the 30 seconds and then started again. Harald used to do 20 of these, rest for 5 min and then do another 20.
Rob Pearson joined the club after Harald left and we wound each other up to doing 2 sets of 32.
Harald's liking for Guiness Girlfriends and fitness were indeed legendary. He was also one of the worst car navigators I've ever met. Several laps round each town on the way to O events in his elderly VW.
I havn't been in contact with Harald for years but understand he is still in Bergen.
I've been in New Zealand for the past 15 years with only occasional visits to UK.

Hi Joe,
Glad to hear from you. 'Harolds' seems like the perfect session to do on grass, instead of the track. I like the way how even the best orienteers still cant navigate to the event - it seems almost customary!
Not quite sure what you mean about the length of each rep. Did you run the entire length of the field? or only part of it, using certain lamp-posts?
