Spiked shoes are spikes, they are what you wear in athletics and cross country, they have spikes on the bottom. dobbed shoes are dobs, it's what you wear in orienteering, they have dobs on the bottom. 2 completely different shoes hocolite... tard

Quality- I've never had a moan about something, come back <10 hours later and found its become an actual swearword. I feel part of something big here like im the annie lennox to ally's bob "focking" geldoff. D****r is a silly word because it doesnt describe the function or the shape of the object, brick (shape), SI card (function), chip (what it actually is) do - we already have about 10 times as many words in english than for swedish.
Personally I dont mind other people using the word mentioned above. But you can't then wonder why people get scared away from orienteering. It sounds silly but if people come along to events and find themselves confronted with silly names and people with silly clothing then theyre not going to come back. If you want to bring newcomers into the sport, don't create unnecessary jargon for them to have to take in, don't convince them that you have to dress up like a noping rainbow to compete, keep it simple.
This is a silly argument but i feel it is a symptom of something deeper in orienteering, something that has seen some of my good friends try it (for years or days in some cases) and then be scared off.

Am I missing something: A card is a small piece of pasteboard, not dissimilar to a thin rectangular object that can be imprinted by a punch. A S I object being plastic and round is surely a peg or tampion.

The correct term is of course "SI-tray". "Bricka" doesn't mean "brick", "bricka" means "tray".
It's just the Emit-bricks that are called "bricks" and that's because they are somewhat brick-shaped and they're also harder to place at the control-unit than your average Lego-brick.
It's the small things I love about orienteering...

Stick one in you ......tard. I know what athletic spikes are cos I was an athlete in my former life, I didn't know why they were known as dobs, the phrase spike was used to differentiate from normal treaded shoes
Thanks Gross I wondered where the name came from.

almost looks like your thread has proved itself, has turned from discussion to moaning/complaining/ one-up-man-ship
i think in these stupidly Politically Correct days the SI card should be called
'Chief assistant checkpoint confirmation device'
and the emit
'Most reliable checkpoint visitation confirmation device providing detail analysis of timings'
