There was 1 W20E, and 1 M20E on Sunday.
I don't know how many went last year, but I do know that Ross one the Middle Junior Elite Champs.
Clearly, for the many reasons (exams, tiomila?, fcc final being next weekend, busy season, etc.) not many juniors are going to the elite junior championships...
BUT, I think a lot of juniors will be going to the FCC final. It has a short and a classic race, why not make that the British Elite Junior Champs. The field is exclusive, and as elite as it gets in GBR.
I don't know what the fixtures are for next year, or if they have even been decided. But why not make the FCC final the BJEOC?
BJEOC

I agree with Mharky, it's a complete farce having a British Championships with 1 competitor, the FCC Final is always the best attended junior race each year.
This would also make it similar to foreign lands where you have to qualify to get into the National Championships.

The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

You say that, but this year the two best junior elites won't be allowed to win it. Oleg is non competitive and Scott isn't going. But then we get the same old argument that the best elites don't always turn up to the British Champs anyways...

i agree with Bedders... but then if it was a race like that then maybe Scott/Oleg or whoever isn't going would come back for it.
...you can't win if you aren't there!
EDIT - Sorry... it is a great idea Mark! - and its better to always have big events alongside FCC (or BJEOC) for those adults/parents who have to drive up there. It was great at the World Cup last year! This year hopefully will be great too!

Bedders> Oleg is NC for the FCC final, as he only has 2 sets of points, he has been given a wildcard like all the other years. However, if it were BJEOC, then that is a totally different competition, and he would be eligible.
Why not have a look at the FCC final short race results, and then look at the British Junior Middle Champs Results...

OK then, you could make the FCC Final an open race, but have the winner of each day as the British Junior Champion regardless of whether they qualified for FCC Final or not. You just might end up with the British Champion (who may not have qualified for the FCC Final due to lack of enough races) not winning the FCC Final.
In 2002, there was an opposite scenario. The FCC Final was held at the British Champs. Nick Morgan won the Middle race, so won the FCC race, but wasn't British Champion because he was running in the Norwegian Champs later that year so declared himself non-comp.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

i mentioned that suggestion in the other thread on the middle champs. it was a joke to be honest. i went out and had a nightmare! partly as i wanted to see how fast i could go ahead of next weekend - i learnt a lot!
anyway, its a shame, particularly when both in the mens and womens there were runners who should have won but were non comp for missing start block. it did become an elephant track out there, (i went back out) and so understand that ruling, but i can't say i feel like a british champion. there was a similar turn out last year.
i suggest fcc final or jk day 1. but instead of complaining on nope, how does anyone go about officially suggesting this?

Yes, FCC final would be better, I didn't really feel right collecting my third place prize after wrecking my ankle before the first control and jogging round. I should never have been up there.
Anything that can be done to increase the level of competition would be great, though there must have been a lot of people not at Tiomila who could have run...
Hopefully the sprints will have a better field

going back to Mharky's original post regarding 20E on Sunday - this was just a National event, the initial details page on the SARUM site didn't mention any 20E classes so hardly anyone entered them - you had to enter 21E and then the organisers relised you were actually 20
This also messes up the overall OOO7 results because the 20E people from day 1 aren't included in the 20L overall results

Tessa>>>
I was putting the idea out there, so see what people (juniors concerned) woud think.
There have been far too many decisions over the years made by people who it doesn't affect without consulting the people whom it will...
I presume it is the competitions steering group who makes that sort of decision...???

Hope you didn't contravene rule 7.2.14
http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/documents/rules/regs03rules1p0.pdfor else there might have been no runners eligible for the trophy.
