To Mike Hampton of OD who last week went to his 2500th event.
Anybody else keep count?
Congratulations

I'm up to 818 which isn't too bad for a 23-year old. A bit disappointed to have only done 9 events this year, though.
The reward of a thing well done is to have done it.

The National Event on Sunday was event 1676, but then Mike is older than me.
And to quote from an article I wrote about an event in China:
"I finished the first day and staggered back to the British camp to announce the achievement of a personal goal - I had now orienteered on five continents. I was somewhat deflated when Mike Hampton realised that he too had now collected a set of five. We compared lists, and I discovered he'd run in more countries than me as well."

I've done about 650 events since 1992.
That's 43 events per year average.
That's worryingly high.
Must find a new obsession.
1992-2000 living in SE, most run on area: Burnham Beeches!
2000-2006 living in EM, most run on area: Bloodworth Woods (EDIT: I meant Blidworth of course!)
Pleased to see that Supersaint is more obsessed than I am (we started orienteering at the same time) Although with his tendency to break limbs I may pass his running total in the next few years!!!
I'd imagine Rocky would be up there after his tour of European Multi Day events last summer!
Amazingly I do the oringen for the first time this summer.

im sorry to disappoint but i've got no idea what my tally is. the only stat i can remember from last summer is finding 250 controls in races in 6.5 weeks.
mike hampton had some of the same controls.
done a quick count up and think i've orienteered in 23 european countries (taking home nations separately) in the last 5 years. pretty pathetic.
maybe i'll go and start a spreadsheet now so i can play with this geeking in the future. or maybe i'll learn some sums.
