I'd noticed that - is there some deliberate policy there, given that there are 4 clubs who have hosted twice but never made the finals, and several regular finalists who have never hosted.?

There may be clubs that have never organised the final but they have hosted the preliminary rounds eg MDOC, organisers of the north-west heat on Sunday. In the past few years Aire have been to heats organised by MDOC, EBOR, SYO, EPOC, NN.

Well yes, but that doesn't answer the question, as I imagine most if not all "big" clubs have hosted a heat at one time or another. I'd imagine those who have hosted the final twice and never competed there have probably also organised quite a lot of heat events.

Possibly I was responding to Hocolite rather than your post. I thought she was hinting that some clubs might be evading their organisational responsibilities in order to maximise their chances of winning, while others organise more than their fair share and therefore reduce their chances of winning. (although I might be reading more into that wink than was actually intended). I was just pointing out that there is more to organise than just the final and the same applies in the heats.

Hosting the event is not a great disadvantage. I imagine most clubs have members who are unlikely to score but are capable enough to plan. The organiser could compete, and ideally the controller should be from another club.

More likely, it is an advantage as members will have a greater knowledge of the area. Perhaps that's why the 'first division clubs' are exempt

NOC will be hosting it next year so that one of the bigger clubs.

Anybody got a list of Trophy Winners ? I bet SOS feature quite prominantly.

I think all members, under the new membership system, should count. A club with a small BOF membership set against a relatively large local membership always has an an advantage in the Trophy.

Perhaps we should go the way of footie and introduce a third level - the VASE for smallest clubs with the trophy for medium sized clubs...... and also go the of footie by encouraging vastly wealthy oligarchs to oodles of dosh in to our clubs.
