ive seen the map from last years event in November on some web page and it looks like an awesome event.
Anyone have any idea when it is this year (assuming its an annual event)?
Unfortunately my limited knowledge of Italian didnt allow me to decipher the Italian Federation's web page.

12th of November indeed. It's an absolutely brilliant event so don't miss it!
Don't hold your breath for the organisers to update their site, they don't usually get round to it until September at the earliest. But closing date is only a couple of weeks prior to the race, and you can pay on the day. The details don't really change much year on year anyway.

The final details make it clear that swimming is not allowed, and nor is taking a boat! I'm not sure swimming would look such a good option when you are standing on the banks of the Grand Canal and see the colour of the water plus the number of boats you'd have to dodge.
A few more links of interest here.

you wouldnt want to swim in that water, especially as the bridge that simone chose to cross on was the one in which i paparazzied ginger locked alan davies of jonathan creek fame and his girlfriend on my visit to venice at the start of 2006!

Would definitely be quicker if it was allowed. Looking at that map, kayak O round there might be quite fun.
