Well if it was football it would be that much (at least) and well worth it:) JS produced a great result & hope he can continue it through until the summer....
As for being negitive about GBR Orienteering... I'm not really... just say it as it looks... which today doesn't look so hot for EOC & WOC... but hopefully our athletes are like the rest of the world & just waking up from winter & come May / July will be a lot stronger as that's what we all want...

Gross + Bendover >
Jamies result was class and alot of the other guys were up their timewise which is great early season. Oli, Craney both ran quality times which would rank high in a WOC.
Scott Fraser is so solid now. He's by far the best and most consistent junior we've had since Jamie and Jon Duncan. He's produced loads of class results, works hard for them, and deserves alot of praise. The kids got a bright future. Nice to see Oleg up there again too.
Where I think Gross might have a point is in the womens elite class. Only 1 british elite girl got within 10mins of Simone over a 45min course (pippa whitehouse 9mins behind). Thats not good and a little worrying. But its early season and by the time the big races come the form at Spring Cup has little relevance. The girls need to sit down with their coaches and work out whats right, whats wrong, and what needs to be done, and focus on form top at Euros + World Champs
Ben dover > Its not always good to paint a rosey picture and pretend alls good. We need people like Gross to question the system and the teams results, theres always things that can be improved and its important the athletes and coaches see these and work on them.

Adam > I disagree with you. Simone has certainly raised the game in the womens and shown what is possible....but she is relatively no better than Thierry, Jani, Rostrup etc in the mens class. It's no excuse to say Simone is a class apart so the real winners time is 50mins - thats just making excuses.
Our women should look at Simone, see what is possible, and work hard at achieving as high as level as possible, not focus on being 5mins behind Simone....if you do that you've already lost the game.

I didn't quite say that we should take 50mins to be a base time, obviously the winning time is 46.49 and this is what any analysis should be based on. I was just make a general observation about the course length/difficulty and thus what represents a good time.
If an athlete runs 19.82 for 200m is this a poor time since the world record is 19.32?
I agree with this bit though:

didsco - thought the mens results were good - one guy in top 5 in all 3 elite classes.
agree with womens results, not amazing but:
1. early season as has already been mentioned
2. EOC/WOC a fair few scandis dissappear from those results
3. would it be fair to say it was a fairly young team? (in terms of WOC/EOC experience anyway). how many WOC's have Pippa, Helen, Rachel, Karen, Claire, Becky etc got between them?
we shall see. but i wouldn't say its all doom and gloom just yet.

Last year at the GB World Cups was the first time since 2000 that I had been at an international race.
The intervening 5 years have been the Simone era.
What struck me was that the women have changed.
A look at the Scandi and Swiss teams and they all look like real athletes. Thats a change - that's Simone's influence. She has created a step change.
Our women have responded they are working very hard. Heather did, we thought she could, but still we had to hope she would. The thing is she DID.
But Helen also won a medal last year. That is significant. Helen has never been a superstar, always been in the shadows, but through dedication and hard work she got reward - Craney did it too - proved that every British orienteer can acheve a meadl - its not just for the superstars - Stan, Yvette, Heather, Jamie. Every person in out team should now realise that the medals are there for them - its no longer a pipe dream. We have 4 individual medalist in world class races in the men's now.
Jamie, Craney, BJ, and Scott.
Every other british orienteer should now realise.
It can be done
because it has been done.

Sorry if I sound ignorant but what's the difference between H21E1 and H21E2? Are they both at the same level or have the "worse" (by World Ranking or whatever means) runners been seeded out of H21E1?
What I'm basically asking is: is a result in E2 worse than an equivalent result in E1 (eg. 10th place in E1 vs 10th place in E2) because the good people are running E1?
