Fixture congestion and budgetting for events

Personally speaking the only reason I'd go to a badge (I mean regional ) event is because a) M21L is longer than a Brown. There's no reason why blacks couldn't be added without much extra fuss to some district event. I'd also like in the opposite vain for all clubs to take the lead of others and if the area is not up to a Brown then leave it at Blue. As long as it is advertised what is available then no problems - e.g. if there's a Black on offer I might have a rest/go canoeing Saturday, if there's just a Blue then I'll go for a hard bike ride.

As it stands if a district event is closer than a regional I'll go to the closer one and ignore the higher status. This perhaps sums it up - there's no perceived difference?

It used to be that the C4 events paid for themselves and encouraged participation but did not produce any money for the club to invest in the sport. Once every year or two it was worth the effort to put on a higher quality badge event which attracted more competitors and gave the club something to pay for maps, banners, punches and more recently SI kit.

Perhaps we have killed the goose by improving the quality of District Events with pre printed maps etc. Is the solution for Regional Event Fees to come down but District Event fees to go up a bit - but what about levies ?

Sounds like you're heading towards a proposed solution Stodge came up with the other night with one of his "I just had a thought" moments (usually followed by one of my moments!): merging district and regional events and having more frequent national events (one or two a month nationally) to get your ranking points with an annual "National League" (best 6 results to count) which actually means something.
