I noticed on the busa start lists that the guests are mixed in with the eligible runners... is that allowed in busa rules and is it fair??
(i'm not trying to cause trouble here, just remember in the past all the guests were made to run first and had presumed it was to do with busa rules and not having non-eligible people affecting results)

yeah I haven't seen the start lists yet but last time i had to run first cause I was a guest.
people will say it's not fair either way because in one way it's not fair to busa champs and the other way it's not fair as a selection race for one-year downers and that.
but surely it should be the same year-to-year? i had to put up with going off first last time surely some other mug should have to deal with that this time?

anyway that was only semi serious and i've just read through the details and it all looks fabulous. there's tonnes of teams and i'm pleased to see there's a decent sized leeds team (my old uni)
now i'm torn, should i go study my south achray map or figure out which superhero to be?

On c problem. Cerys Wroe is actually Cerys Manning (well, has her first name and is using her SI card...) but as she is down as Wroe she aint been seeded at all... a bit unfair i think... who's was the mistake though, osford secretary or the entry team...???

Led me shed some light on it:
The guests have been put in this year with the other runners on the A and B courses because a number of them are eligible for world students and as the race is a selection race then they have been seeded with student runners in the interest of fairness.
The fact that Cerys hasn't been seeded is a mistake (doesn't really matter who's mistake) and it will be rectified along with a number of other mistakes in the start lists (such as identical SI card numbers). Cerys will be given a seeded start time.
Thanks for bringing the mistakes to my attention.
Anymore corrections / missing SI numbers should be sent to me by e-mail:

Just over a week to go!
It's going to be a good one!

it looks like a really good competition, though saturday's gonna be pretty tough looking at the amount of climb and terrain description! but with the standard of athletes there it will be a really good race. interesting to see how the spectator control bit works - looks like we'll be punching it 3 times , hopefully no-one will get confused and run off the opposite way round!
anyone want to start hedging their bets on whose going to win?

I think that's fair enough about the start list.
I reckon the fact that they are doing it this way now shows they admit it was a mistake to do it the other way in 2004. You can harp on as much as you like about the best can do well from any start position and blah blah but it does create an unecessary unfairness/psychologocial barrier or whatever against the one-year downers. especially with only 2 min start interval (due to the large entry)
It's a bit different now cos in 2004 we had 5 selection races for world studs so in the end the best team got picked and did well (i ran like a donkey at busa but jk and 0007 secured my place). this time there are only 3 selection races, widely spaced thru the season. who is running the best over a junior length course at a steep tough busa in early March might not be the best indicator of who is best to perform in flat fast karst-Slovakia in mid-August but i guess they will look at all 3 races and all known form too.
Added factors like people dropping out late in the day due to WOC or whatever will make the whole thing a bit weird this year but the main thing is whoever goes to slovakia must beat the czechs!
the czech-bashing will be aided by the early selections (May) as then team & reserves will still have chance to go and check out the special terrain.
Anyway all-in-all i'm looking forward to a fun weekend and trying to secure the best ever relay performance by the University of Paisley. excited to see the ad-hoc will be hotly fought and hoping we can get in amongst them.

Possibly not a huge challenge!
If, on the other hand, you can secure the best ever individual performance by a Paisley student then it'll be worth a drink or two...

Out of interest, what is the situation with regard to alumni and the scoring for the overall BUSA trophy? I presume that only current students can count towards a university's score. From the start list it seems some of the alumni there for the World Students selection may be running under their old university's name, which might confuse the scoring...

OK, it seems the BUSA site has been updated but none of the new links actually work. and the Edinburgh site on the whole is very slow in loading...
Edit: OK, it's all working again now, was my bookmark messing up the links...

Mr. Sanderson (and/or whoever is responsible for start lists).
Why am I down as a guest?
I am eligible to compete for Edinburgh University (may I refer you to BUSA REG 12.2.3) and should therefore be listed under Edinburgh University's entrants.
Ta muchly,
Mr. B

Sorry Bilson, that will be my fault. My humblest apologies.
