£13.00
Unlucky for some
How did the organisers arrive at such a large number?
It's just a single O course... why would it be more expensive than say....
£8.50 which is the price of the Selhurst Park O event.
BOC - Moan about entry costs

Finally calculated to give them just enough profit to flee to the bahamas in a private jet.
Big event, costs more to put on. Get over it.

For starters:
BOC brand new area for O, very intricate terrain, mapping costs circa 6k
Selhurst re-mapped for free by club member
Also a 70 mile round trip for the planner = high expense claim. How I love the A272.

greater BOF/association levies and perhaps more expensive land access for a start. C1 events (BOC & JK) are always more expensive to enter than anything else

Nonsense. The bigger the event the bigger the profit normally as the fixed costs are normally around the same.
So by that logic the british champs should be cheaper to enter than your Saturday local event at scumsville country park.

guest, how are the fixed costs about the same?
try loudspeaker hire, more tape for run-ins etc, more tents, more computers, hire of larger fields for assembly and parking, updating of map etc. These are fixed since the they'll be arranged before the final number of competitors is known.
anyway, costs aren't much more than other national events. The SROC one later in the month is £11 so £13 for the British and £12 for the JK isn't much more

I do wonder why we bother with regional events. With badges events you once got all the add-ons - new map, bagged up with courses over-printed and generally fairly limited numbers on your age specific course. The higher fee paid for the extra facilities. For about half the price at a district event I now get the new bagged map nicely over-printed and often a decent sized entry on my colour coded course. And I get to enter on the day rather than worry about pre-entry. So what do I actually get for my extra fee now ?

A free slap from the organiser for moaning.
Or...
If you do "loudspeaker hire"
or sell "tape for run-ins etc".... (seriously!)
" hire tents"
provide "computers"
a big cheque
If it's causing you so much grief, don't go.

An event with 4000 people on an FC property would have figures such as:
£6000+ maps (at 60p each)& mapping
£2500 portaloo hire (for 30 but there would prolly be more)
£5000+ BOF levy (if its same as C3 @ £1.65 which I doubt, prolly in excess £8000)
£3000+ regional association levy (if they charge which I bet they do)
£1777 FC hire
£2000-£3000+ officals expenses
thats just for one day and before all the joys of new kit needed, drinks, tape, loud speaker hire, first aid cover, car parking hire, the 1000's man hours of paperwork and leg work to make it happen, extra "major event insurance" and all the health and saftey side of things. The event would probably take £40K or more but you would not expect to see much change out of that, for any event you run someone somewhere will shaft you for as much money as they can and with it being one of the biggest in the calendar you can expect to be bent over a barrel deliverence style on several fronts.
Face facts, £13 an event will be the norm very soon and if new membership changes come in where event levies need to increase you can expect entry prices to go through the roof. Then it will definatly be a middle class sport.
Ah well thats opened the debate on several fronts.

I think the punter is probably voting with his feet in reg v district debate. If you look at recent regional events the entry numbers are hardly stunning, particularly on junior courses. Either the sport is in general decline or people are deciding not to travel and pay higher fees for regional events when they can get similar from a district.
Diets and fitness are no good if you can't read the map.

How much?????
Think you need to get some more quotes for your loos. I've just hired 15 for an event I'm running at £40 each for a weekend.
BTW my favourite events (until I moved) were the TVOC summer evening series ones. Maximum half hour drive from my house. Mass start, first one back wins, cost a quid, then off to the pub. And I think the club still made a small profit.
